Be Aware! If you book through McLeod's be sure to ask which cottage you are staying in. Otherwise you could be the victim of "bait and switch" marketing like we were. While the location was amazing, the cottage we stayed in is not even listed on their website nor does it deserve to be. The poorly constructed Mac Mac cottage is unkempt, outdated and to be honest dirty. We were expecting any one of the cottages on the website instead we were abruptly shown to the Mac Mac driveway with no explanation of what awaited inside. Aside from the teeny kitchen and bedrooms, old fixtures in the bathroom (we could see to the outside by looking through the shower drain) the furniture was old and broken -one of the sofas used books as legs and the other was covered in a blanket it was so yucky. Unbeknownst to us the cottage was heated with a woodstove- that didn't have an operating fan, our "host" provided only 3 logs, and nine matches so unless you are a top rate boy scout who can light fire with one match, and sat in front of the fire you froze. We would have happily brought wood along with us- had we known but it wasn't communicated to us. The only other source of heat was a broken electric heater that due to a severe lack of outlets had to stay in the living room. With nothing but plywood walls, temperatures dropped to 4 degrees in the back bedrooms. Basic hospitality amenities like paper towel, much needed extra blankets were not provided. We booked this cottage based on reputation and longevity of McLeod's- but were sorely misled. Let's give the hosts the benefit of the doubt- maybe this cottage is ready for a half-life refit and covid delayed things- either don't rent it, or don't charge full price for this level of quality. At the least give a "under-renovation" discount- but to charge $100 per night per person (400+ for us) for this kind of quality is either criminal or unethical.…
Our 7th visit to MacLeod Cottages was great. Each time we visit, we stay in a different cabin. Each cabin offers the same amenities and a view of the ocean (sunrise). The cabins are rustic; however they are comfortable. No TV’s and no distractions. Time to put the cell phone away and relax. The cabins are equipped with a wood stove, electricity, stove/oven, refrigerator and a bathroom (shower). Very nice sandy beaches and lots of easy hiking.
Rustic cottages with beautiful ocean views. The cottages are fairly well maintained. A great place to relax. Each cottage has a wood stove or fireplace for heat. The cottages have full indoor bathroom facilities and a functional kitchen.
MacLeod cottages have been operating for fifty plus years, True rustic but well maintained cabins, lots of front porches, Green Bay is mostly untouched and except for weather related shifts and changes is a natural as it was years ago. This is where the "woods" meet the ocean, salt tang in the air, fog at times, you feel relaxed as you listen to the waves and bird calls, see squirrels and seagulls. If you can't afford you own little piece of sea side property with a rustic cabin on it, this gives you the opportunity to experience that feel. The small restaurant service fresh delicious food and ice cream, you can make friends while sitting outside enjoying your purchases. It's just a nice place to be. I lived near for the first 30 years of my life, seen it in all seasons, its where the locals go for break…
We learned about MacLeod's Cottages after eating at the family style on-the-beach restaurant years ago. There is a row of cottages all along the shore, with the restaurant still there, serving fresh seafood. The dining area is small, so take-ours is recommended, unless there are just one or two people. Our cottage was rustic, but comfortable. A full kitchen, two bedrooms, living room with sliding glass doors that lead to a porch that looks out onto the ocean. This is a family-run business. Their home is close-by, where the office is located. The location of the cottages is breathtaking. Fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean. Driving around the area, you will see farms, stately old homes, a couple of stores, and simply beautiful landscapes. There is spotty-at-best cell coverage, but that should not bother. This is relaxing for adults, and a wonderland for children. We often purchased food at local markets and cooked our own meals. Life slows down when here. No rushing around. Nobody is in a hurry. Do not expect a lot of contact with the owners. You are left to your own devices, although you can contact them if need be. That suits us fine. This was a great place to spend a week. Highly recommended!…
