This is the only spot to stay on Ascension unless you're connected to government - but don't worry - it will exceed expectations. It's a motel type place (guessing around 8 to 10 rooms but didn't count them) in Two Boats Village which is about 10 minutes from Georgetown and slightly higher up so a bit milder temperature-wise. In a prefab kind of building, it backs onto the JAMS supermarket also owned by the Ellicks. The room was clean. It had ample TV channels and powerpoints. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom modern. There were enough towels. A desk, a cupboard. It's not the Ritz, but it feels good to crash out at the end of the day because they do such a good job of tidying the rooms. The Ellicks - the Saint family that own the place - were the best hosts anyone could ask for. Serena collected me at the airport, welcomed me into JAMS, made sure I was comfortable, and later took me for dinner at the Volcano Club (that wouldn't be getting five stars!). She also waited whilst I checked out a fairly quiet bar in Georgetown and decided it wasn't worth sticking around. Andrew showed me around the island. The two of them are interesting, kind, charming and possessed of what I can only describe as old-school manners. At the risk of sounding crusty - it was really nice to be welcome properly. It does have wifi - you can get a voucher at the shop. Don't expect it to be cheap - no comms are cheap on the island and the Ellick's are just selling you access to the Sure wifi point not making a huge markup. I would definitely stay here again. Next time I might rent a car so I had a bit more flexibility. And there probably will be another time, thanks largely to my time with the Ellicks.…
