I stayed here travelling solo for 12 days in May 2023, during a 2 month trip to Indo. This was by FAR my favourite out of all the places I stayed. Such a beautiful and remote location, a really unique experience. So epic to stay in the jungle. By a longshot this camp is way better value for money when compared with the other 2 camps available on the island. I stayed in the lodge for 10 nights and had 1 night in a bungalow. Really comfortable rooms with heaps of space and decent facilities, which were really clean and well maintained. Great quality food with a decent mix of local and western cuisine. The whole set up is really relaxed with a cool communal lounge area, table tennis and a hut on the beach. The beach hut is probably the best place to watch the wave, sunrise and sunset. Had many hours chilling, stretching and napping in it!! The camp has some decent power boats and it was epic to explore the Hinakos. We surfed a couple of other waves whilst we were there. Asu is such a beautiful island and its amazing to walk through the jungle to village and the beach on the other side of the island is great for snorkeling.
I was really well looked after by Camp manager Cam and his awesome team of locals (Dehsi, Penga & Adman). I felt that Cam especially went out of his to ensure I had a really a good time and that my trip went smoothly. He was kind enough to arrange taxis and accommodation in Nias for me before and after my stay at Sozinhos - which made travelling to such a remote place so much easier & hassle free. Unfortunately, I made a mistake with booking my return flights back from Nias, which caused me a bit of stress towards the end of the trip. Cam was a massive help and was able to sort this out for me, which meant I could extend my trip a few days more during a peak swell window.
This was the most serious wave that I surfed when I was in Indo and was mindful of this particularly as the water entry/exit is really challenging. The wave was quite intimidating when I first turned up. Every time I paddled out here I felt I was really pushing the limits of my comfort zone. On my initial few days Cam helped me with timing my rock jump and paddle out until I was comfortable, and he was great to surf with especially with calling me into some of the bigger set waves. All these things helped me feel more comfortable in the water, enabled my level of surfing progress and meant I was able to score the best waves of my life.
Thanks to the whole team at Sozinhos and especially to Cam for making the experience so epic and memorable. I cannot wait for the next time I am able to head out to Asu and stay here!

Great time at Sozinhos surf camp! Sozinhos sits right in front of the infamous Asu with an epic view of the wave from the gazebo, cottages, and dining area. Beautiful outdoor tile shower, private bathrooms, and clean adorable cottages. The new manager Campbell was very attentive and accommodating, we enjoyed talking story with him. Three fresh and delicious meals a day were provided by sozinhos chef Dezi and Arman. And our speed boat driver Penga was knowledgeable on the island chain and took us often to different surf spots. We were lucky enough to see Asu in all its glory a few times during our stay but it became clear the wave is quite sensitive to wind. A few other spots only a boat trip away favor opposite wind direction providing clean surf when Asu was blown out. These waves are powerful and handle large barreling surf.
The island experiences variable weather and the surf was dependent on this from day to day. We experienced our fair share of rain storms and stronger winds (we came in late September- early oct).That being said it was also very peaceful to hear the rain from our cozy cottage and we still surfed almost everyday. Overall an amazing and unique experience. The Hinako islands are absolutely gorgeous and untouched. If you have patience, do a bit of research and planning, and you will find yourself many epic surf sessions with only you and your buddies out. Jika Anda mencari gelombang kelas dunia tanpa keramaian, area ini adalah salah satu tempat terakhir yang masih memberikan. Kamp memiliki kamar-kamar yang indah dengan AC, makanan enak, dua tender bagus dan pemilik / pemandu selancar yang tahu kapan dan ke mana harus mencari ombak di tempat lain. Semua dalam semua, kamp ini adalah permata mutlak dibandingkan dengan Ments yang penuh sesak atau Telos yang terlalu mahal. Satu-satunya peringatan adalah bahwa jika Anda mencari ombak tinggi, gelombang lembut, maka Hinakos mungkin bukan cangkir teh Anda.
