This museum shows the history of locals living in earlier times. Yes, it was nice to see they had enamel stuff like my grandma had, but all in all it's worth a quick look, at most 30 minutes. Hopefully for you there's no tour group at the same time, otherwise it's quickly very crowded.

We stopped here when taking an island tour. It was chaotic with several busloads of tourists vying for three toilets. There’s a dollar charge to use them and there are sprays of hand sanitizer when you’re done. No one was aware there was a separate facility inside the museum (3rd toilet for women only), so most people stood in the sun for the entire time of their stay, waiting in line. It would have been kind for the individuals collecting money to mention that! I had five minutes to see the museum; I would have appreciated more time to do so.

There is a bar on the premises. They provided free samples of cactus liquor which was surprisingly good.

The culture and heritage of Bonaire must be fascinating, but not much of it is accessible. This museum is set in an old house that reminds one of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Love in the Times of Cholera. Unfortunately, a bus of Dutch tourists got in just before us, and the docent was unavailable to us. Though interesting, the artifacts lacked context or explanation. I can only imagine what stories we could have heard from the docent about the blending of native, European (Holland, Spain, Portugal), and African into a today's Bonairen culture and heritage..

Excellent Museum with Myrna as our guide. She explains the history of this home with great care and knowledge. We even received a demonstration of hand grinding the soragom. We enjoyed light refreshments and traditional Papiamentu breakfast pancakes. Make a reservation in advance. Do not go on Cruise Ship Days...very over crowded then but this little hidden gem in Rincon is worth the time and energy to pick up the phone and schedule a private tour. This museum survives on donations only...so don't be a stingy and bypass the donation box! The home is in excellent shape. Little children should keep their hands to themselves! If they can't leave them outside as there are many breakable artifacts in the small Museum.
