Get here nice and early as very limited parking.
Great views and a relatively easy walk once you are up. Plenty of Wainwrights to tick off as well. The later half of the walk was little boggy but this is weather dependent so be prepared.
Long day covering a lot of distance.

A tough walk but well worth it for the views and enjoyment. We were lucky to have great weather and visibility meaning it was even better. We did it on a Saturday and while we struggled for parking in the small town of Kentmere (get there early to get a spot!) the walk definitely didn't feel busy, far from it. Would recommend lots of sun cream and water if you have a sunny day!

This is a great fell walk which includes 9 wainwrights.

Parking at the church in Kentmere is very limited so would advise to get there early, also it's a long walk around 13 miles and takes 6-8 hours.

I started around 9am and got back to the church around 5.30pm and that was going at a steady pace but with plenty of stops to take in the views as the weather was great.

Most of the hard work and climbing is done early on and then you are rewarded with miles of elevated walking.

The summits I took in were Yoke, ill bell, frostwick, thornthwaite crag, high Street, mardale ill bell, harter fell, kentmere pike, shipman knotts.

It really is a fantastic ridge walk.

Kentmere Horshoe is a demanding walk but worth the effort for the views. As others have said, get there early if you want a parking space as there are only a handful at the Village Hall. A donation of £3 per car is asked for which goes to the upkeep of the Hall.

We did the clockwise route and is simple to follow. No phone signal in Kentmere so don't rely on digital maps on your phone. Keep walking along the road, away from the Hall and shortly after it is sign posted to your right at the side of the farm.... and up you go. Paths are clear, well maintained and you will get great views of Windermere, Haweswater, Hayswater, Kentmere Resevoir and a number of tarns.

Weather was perfect, cloudy and warm and remember the sunscreen as I still had a red face despite the clouds!! After the walk, a nice steady drive into Staveley to Hawkshead Brewery for rehydration.... obviously.

We decided to tackle the Kentmere Horseshoe as our first experience of walking in the Lakes. It was strenuous,it was long, but if an old guy with a knee replacement can do it, what are you all waiting for? A beautiful day helped, but just over 6 hours with a nice stop for lunch was a good day in the hills.

First of all, we would recommend that you start this walk early in order to get parked at Kentmere - as there is only room for about half a dozen cars near the church (we understand that sometimes the local farmer opens a field - but it's probably not a good idea to rely on that).
We did the walk clockwise to do all of the climbing first. It is a strenuous walk, taking in a number of peaks, but we had perfect weather and took our time. The paths are really clear, making for easy progress. The views are fantastic and the walk is well worth the effort.

One of my favourite Fell Runs.... great all year around, though weather can be changeable, so prepare well just in case.

This is a wondrful walk in most conditions. There are some boggy parts from the top of Garburn Pass to Ill Bell and frozen ground can be a blessing. Substantial snow cornices form so stick to the path. With a strong south-westerly the wind at the Nan Bield Pass can be fierce - I was once blown off my feet when leaving the stone shelter there!

If you want (or conditions deteriorate) you can leave the high level route at Nan Bield and descend to the valley bottom for a steady walk back along a path.

The famous Kentmere horseshoe is a strenuous 13 mile hike but there is a less strenuous 7 mile lower walk which goes from Kentmere village up to the reservoir up one side of the valley and down the other. Still good views up and down the valley. The farmer had opened his filed for parking when we were over the bank holiday weekend. Otherwise get up early to secure a parking place near the church.

Really good walk with clear paths. Challenging at times as lots of ascents! We parked in kentmere a farmer had opened the field for parking as parking is very limited there. Would recommend to get there early. Also if using a website for direction- print it or screen shot it before setting off from home as kentmere has no service at all. Took about 5 hours to do 12 miles, we took lunch and stopped on Harter Fell to eat. On a sunny day the views are brilliant.
