We decided to spend a little time looking out at the water and taking a beach walk. It was nice, quiet and comfortable. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see any dolphins in the water but we enjoyed looking for some shells and rocks on the beach.

Fantastic pocket of Scotland and if you’re lucky, the dolphins, seals and porpoises will share their presence. Obviously never guaranteed but delightful when you get a chance to see them. A wee bit of patience is needed though. It’s disappointing to read some of the previous reviews about parking. It’s not a big place. That’s the reality. Camper vans, whilst becoming more and more popular, are not always suited to the small car park logistically, and those who choose this mode of larger travelling transport shouldn’t assume that facilities can automatically accommodate their vehicles. I’ve seen utter chaos and traffic jams in summer from loads of cars finding it difficult to turn or park because of over-parking so chuck a small bus into the mix isn’t going to work. Plan ahead. That’s important. If able, walk to the Point. It’s totally flat and wheelchair accessible from the nearest parking area that takes camper vans (or on-street parking). And good luck on seeing dolphins. 😁

Chanonry point was very disappointing due to no parking for motorhomes. It is a very small carpark but, even though there were spaces, we were not allowed to stay, even for a short time. I am disabled and unable to walk to the point.
If they do not want motorhomes visiting then at least let people know on the website so they don't have a wasted journey like we did. Also the sign in the carpsrk could at least be friendly and polite. Not Motorhomes turn left and Exit. That is exactly what we did and will not be back.

If you have binoculars or a good zoom camera this is a great point to see dolphins and seals.
We were there as recommended 1h after the low tide just as the water starts to rise and the fish are swept with it.
There were quite a few dolphins not too far from shore and a few seals that bobbed their heads out.

This was the highlight of our two week trip around Scotland and such an incredible experience!
We arrived an hour before low tide and was lucky to get a parking space, so give yourself plenty of time. Beware - there are no toilets or cafes so make sure you come fully prepared. Parking is very cheap and is free after 5pm. The parking attendant was very helpful (not often you say that!) and was keeping the area tidy of litter.
The children collected shells and sea glass while we waited for the Dolphins to arrive, while we were able to spot a few seals bobbing along close to shore. As we hoped the Dolphins arrived an our after low tide and gave a fantastic display very close to the beach.
Just amazing!!

We arrived in Inverness for an overnight stay before starting off on the NC500 and decided to take a chance on spotting some dolphins, something we’ve done on many occasions whilst up in this area. We checked the tide tables and arrived when they should be making an appearance to the usual beach full of people with the same idea. We hung around the cold and windy beach for almost an hour and a half with no luck, so headed on back to the B&B. However on completion of the NC500 some seven days later we decided to have another go and this time we were in luck. On our arrival on the beach there were quite a few pods around and so began an hour of the usual magical experience which we will never get tired of.

This was our favourite experience of our trip. There was plenty of sea glass for the kids to collect while waiting for the dolphins to arrive. The pod arrived about an hour after the low tide today, it was mesmerising to watch them leaping in the waves.

Wow. What an amazing experience!! Seeing dolphins so close to the shore. Absolutely fantastic couple of hours.
We arrived just before the turning of the low tide, which was about 9am. We managed to get a parking space, but very soon cars were queuing. (£1 an hour)
It is a short walk over shingle to the best spot; all you need to do is look for the crowd of about 150-200.
It was all quiet for 30 minutes or so, then the pod seemed to arrive on mass - jumping, surfing, spinning - and all relatively close to shore. About 20 meters away.
It lasted about an hour.
It was the most memorable occasion and really took your breath away.
Certainly worth a visit.

Lovely spot to sit and admire the view even if the dolphins don't appear. We walked round the point in the morning and not a single dolphin to be spotted. However it is a nice walk along from Rosemarkie or Fortrose and the vies are lovely. We stopped off again late afternoon after our walk up to the Fairy Glen and parked in the car park . We were gad we did as the dolphins had arrived. We watched them feeding, leaping and playing for about an hour, quite close in shore. Well worth a visit.

Best time of the day to go and see the dolphins?

Went 2 days in a row....be there at LOW TIDE time for the area. That allows you to get a space ( maybe ) , and see the dolphins come in with the incoming tide ( about 1 hour after LOW TIDE ). Saw about 3/4 on the first day and about a dozen on the second.

Hi. Is the path to here from either Fortrose or Rosemarkie pushchair friendly?

there's not a path as such. Other than the standard road and pavement scenario, the final road leading to the point is through the golf course. This road has several sleeping policemen throughout its length and has shirt cropped grass edges. In my opinion the route is push chair friendly.

I suppose you could use a disposable one on the little beach here but make sure to extinguish it before you leave and remove all rubbish.

Though we have seen dolphins there at all sorts of times, Note there is a good fish and chip in Fortrose McGinty's and benches make a great area to enjoy them in the weather allows.

Hi,
Does anyone have any advice about the best way to get here with no car (only using public transport)?
Many thanks

You need to get a bus 26a 26 c maybe others, from inverness, final destination could be Cromarty. get off in the small village /town of Fortrose by Anderson pub. walk on further 200 yards , pausing at the coop shop for refreshments, walk on 50 yards or so see signpost pointing to right to the Point and golfcourse. Take the right Ness road and follow all way down. through golf course to end. dolphins on left if present. let us know what you see. ideally 3 hours after low tide to 2 hours before high tide, take binoculars and warm clothes No toilets at the end.,

What time of year is the best time to spot dolphins at Chanonry point?
DodLT
Kirkwall, UK51 kontribusi
The dolphins are resident so can be seen all year round. As with all sea fishing the best time is at the start of the flood tide, when the incoming tide sweeps in with fresh plankton and small fish, which the bigger fish eat, which get eaten by Salmon, which is what the dolphins like....

What time of year is it best to spot dolphins

We were there in August and one evening there were dolphins everywhere. 2 days later however, nothing! I advise being patient and taking hot drinks (plenty of them), chairs and warm clothes! I think all year round is possible but it's best as the tide is coming in. There's more advice online if you key in moray dolphins.
Good luck!
