Breathtaking views from the top
Sep 2017 • Pasangan
My wife and I came across the Camps Viaduct last Saturday whilst doing a bit of exploring within Almondell and Calderwood Country Park.
The Camps Viaduct was built in 1885. The railway was known as the Camps Branch of the North British Railway and served the oil works at Pumpherston and Uphall. The railway line closed in 1956.
All track has gone now, but today it is a pathway, used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
We walked up to, and over the viaduct. It immediately became apparent to us, due to its narrow width, that when in use it would have been a single track line only.
The viaduct has nine spans, and reaches a height of 75 feet above the water, thus allowing for some breathtaking views and splendid photographic opportunities from the top.
