Took my dogs on a lead and had a most interesting time, beautiful area, a chance to observe the wild life. Very informative. A perfect day out

We enjoyed following the walks around this RSPB site. There are various landscapes to walk around. We like nature walks but we're not really bird watches and we didn't see anything really different - we did spot a couple of colourful butterflies.

spent all day here and walked five miles - only a handfull of cars so a good day to visit. Highlight was seeing an otter chase a moorhen - it escaped being lunch! Saw at leaset a dozen lizards sun bathing. So peaceful too. PSPB staff were very welcoming.

Got to say this place was a lot better than I was expecting.
Very easy for people to walk around and with lots to see here the various signs around helped with identifying what you could see.
Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful

Pleasant and relaxed reserve not far from Norwich. We stayed locally and visited several times. Tricky to do that if you are not local as the car parks were overflowing at the weekend (end of half term week). Like most RSPB reserves in Norfolk it needs a bigger car park. Great area of woodland, stuffed full of birds; meadow area for butterflies (did not see a Swallowtail, sadly) and a reed area with many Marsh Harriers on display. Some great little warblers in the reeds and we spent ages stalking them. The riverbank, on the other hand, was disappointing and with the many boats, a bit like birdwatching next to the M1. Beware the long trail (3.8km) as it is mostly unrewarding (track is too low relative to the height of the reeds so you can't see anything). Enthusiastic staff, basic refreshments and toilets. Given how busy it is at weekends, and how remote from shops it is, they are probably missing a trick by not having a proper cafe. Some evidence still of the damage done by Covid restrictions.

Awesome day out watching marsh harriers giving us an outstanding aeronautical display of their flying skills. You do need a scope or camera with a decent lens to get the most of watching these magnificent birds. They swooped and swayed with ease over the reedbeds searching out food. Often diving down and then when not so lucky soaring up again on their reconnaissance of the fen for other prey. Carrion crows did try to duel with one male harrier but this amazing bird outmanoeuvred them to leave the crows themselves as the hunted and not the hunters. They soon dispersed as the harrier gave them a glimpse of its razor-sharp talons.
We were then privileged to see an otter, swimming close to reedbeds and smoothly disappearing into the dense cover they provided.
Take your wellies, it gets boggy in places and allows you to get the most of this RSPB site.

We had a lovely walk yesterday on one of the many routes you can follow around the fen. Well organised with Covid precautions. Excellent member of staff was very friendly and helpful with payment and giving us directions. We saw some Deer and Swans.

Due to flooding on of the walks was closed but we still completed the Woodland walk and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We spotted a heron flying over the fields and numerous other birds, not to mention many different fungi

I thought visiting Strumpshaw Fen was a brilliant experience! I had a great time exploring the different routes of the area, and there were lots of wildlife and plants nearby to keep me in awe of the natural beauty here. I would definitely say it is a hidden gem of Norfolk, and off the beaten path for sure, I would probably never have known about it if not for a friend who lives nearby recommending it to me! However - as it is located in such a rural, small area, with only a few small villages nearby, I found the roads rather bumpy, and it was hard to navigate our way to this area, and to find the car park, although we did so eventually. It would have been much easier if there were clearer instructions for us to follow on the RSPB website, as we kept getting lost around the Low Road area. Also, if you're looking for a Norfolk day trip, this may not be the best place to base it around, as this is probably the most interesting thing to do in the area, I didn't see anything else that sparked my attention nearby to go visit after this.

Strumpshaw Fen is a great place to visit, both for those keen on bird watching, and for others who just like a peaceful walk in beautiful surroundings. You can choose walks of varying challenge, and there are two hides to stop for a closer look, or to set up a camera.
The staff/volunteers were very friendly. There is a free carpark, and the entrance to the reserve is reasonably priced.
The reserve includes woodland, meadows, ponds and access to a broad waterway, so many varieties of wildlife can be seen.
