We turned up to park in the recommended car park. It was locked shut. So we parked outside the church. Church was signposted with directions to a tea room in the Church grounds. Off we went round the corner - there it was - closed! Never mind, there’s a tea room down the road. Got there, and that was closed too! Went along boardwalk to see the Ranworth Broad Visitor Center - guess what? Yep - it was closed. The pub was open, but that’s not what we were looking for. All in all a disappointing visit.

We found it difficult to find our way on the roads leading to this location. At busy times parking could be a problem. The NWT centre was very interesting. The highlight was a one hour boat trip where we followed a kingfisher along the banks of the broad for about 20 minutes.

This is my first visit to the Broards and out of all of them this was my favourite. It's like being on a quintessential village green. There is a lovely tea shop if you would like a decent meal and wonderful walks in the nature reserve and around he village. The village church is also worth a visit.

Ranworth is a small picturesque village that sits on its own Broad and also Maltsters Broad. Village has a pub and a very nice tea room (see separate review). Lovely to walk around and look at the old properties. We visited the nature reserve for what was like a swamp with boardwalks, reeds, fauna, flowers and wildlife. Watching the cranes and cormorants amongst the butterflies was lovely. Run by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust it is really worth the short walk to their viewing on the edge of the Broad along the boardwalk. We also visited the village church which has a great view over the area in return for climbing the 89 steps, two ladders and opening one hatch – go on, go for it!.

Beautiful boardwalk through the nature reserve, with interesting fauna and flora (some orchids, a water vole, ...) Boardwalk takes you to a waterside visitor centre, which is very pleasant and has tables and chairs on the water's edge where you can have an ice cream in a very peaceful location.

We went to Ranworth Broad in the hope of taking the 40 minute boat trip, but when we saw how small the boat was and the fact that it had no covering, decided against it. Also found it rather confusing that it picks passenger up at one place, then stops at another before actually starting the trip. Parking is not well signposted. The place itself is very picturesque and we had some delicious cake in the little tearooms there.

Great oneway system for much of the boardwalk out to viewing platforms with interesting information panels along the way. A good visitor information centre with upstairs viewing area. Also gifts, postcards and delicious icecream available.

Ranworth Broad is not too far from Wroxham and visitors to the Broad will usually take one of the tour boats to see the Broad. However, we visited by car and after parking in the public car park we followed the nature trail through the woodland and Reed beds to a flotong platform with a visitor centre and panoramic views across the water where we could see alot of birds, mostly geese and terns. On the way back to the car we passed the 'cathedral of the broads'. From the water its an impressive sight but up close it is super impressive. In the village there is a pub and cafes so you can easily spend several hours enjoying the tranquility and nature.

Have visited Ranworth several times, both on water and by car. It is in my opinion, one of the most beautiful of the Broads. By boat it is easily found and has plenty of mooring spots, although if you hope to visit either the Nature Reserve or the village and take in the views from the top of the church spire then you will have to moor around the green at the far end near The Maltings. Given that I’ve only ever visited before or after the big summer months of June, July and August and found the area to be pretty popular, I should think it wouldn’t be easy to find space here in the height of summer. Mooring on this green can be pretty daunting for first time boaters as the area is very popular with privately owned boats and trying to reverse into a space between two boats worth as much as a house each, nerve wracking to say the least.
By road it’s a fairly easy journey and there is parking to be found. I would recommend a visit to the Nature Centre which is a 15 minute walk. Take a look at the view on the opposite side of the road from where the walk to the centre begins, in my mind this view of the little stretch of water, mirror like in its calmness, surrounded by trees and reflecting the lilac of the rhododendron shrub that overhangs the water is a sight to behold. With the first of this years ducklings dabbling about, it is i believe, nature at her finest. The walk to the Nature Reserve takes you past one of the oldest trees in Norfolk on through Reed beds full of birdsong. The centre doesn’t offer much although the views from upstairs are quite nice. You can also take a boat trip for about an hour that takes you around the private and not open to any other boats, part of the Broads. Here you can see a variety of birds, including the biggest cormorant site I’ve ever seen. The conservation and clean up of the water is worth asking about. The man who took us around last week was very knowledgeable and made it all most interesting.
Our favourite mooring spot was by a little inlet to the left as you enter the broad, tucked away in the corner with no access to either the Maltings or the tourist spots it’s usually quiet. It was whilst moored here last year, that I caught site early one morning, of a pair of fully grown otters frolicking up and down the inlet playing chase. It was at first light, about 4.30am but worth being up for. I will never forget it. Also the inlet seems to provide a safe haven for new born ducklings of which I saw many of being herded up and down the waters edge, learning to dabble.
Should you make it either by car or managing to moor on the green, by the visitor shop, I can recommend a decent lunch to be had at The Maltings. The menu covers most taste and is not overly priced, service is good and it has its own car park for those who drive there. It is also opposite the start of the walk to the Nature Reserve.
All in all ither on water or by road, this broad is a must visit.

I was disappointed at the NWT reserve and visitor centre. I thought the site would be much more extensive, given that they had built a centre there. In fact it was one narrow boardwalk through some lovely woods teeming with birds and a small floating visitor centre with no room around it. It was overrun with noisy children, both school parties and tourists, so there was no opportunity to stop and watch birds on the boardwalk. At the centre itself there was some view from the ground floor of the tern platforms, which had other birds as well, but no access to the upper floor where views could have been better. Outside there was one tiny viewing platform (for 2 people?) built in entirely the wrong place so you could not even see the terns. There was not even any riverbank outside the centre and so nowhere to go. Being just around the corner from a very busy mooring place for Broads boats it is not surprising it is overcrowded - there's not much else for them to do except eat at the pub! We left it about 10 minutes then gave up.
