Just after entering the gate, our guide told us there will probably not be many animals to see. He was unfortunately right. There are bushes everywhere, those make it uneasy to find animals. Baboons everywhere. The best moment was when the other guides help us to find a lion and leopard sleeping on a tree. Otherwise the money spent on entrance fee have not a worth.

We crossed entire park from south to north coming from Tarangire northwest exit. This park offers vegetation that is more lush and jungle-like than other nearby parks. However, due to heavy rains over the past years, lake level has risen and it is no longer the paradise for birds and herds that it was before. In 4 hours we saw several groups of elephants up close, 4 hippos swimming in lake, one herd of buffalos and lots of monkeys and baboons. There are new roads to replace the washed out and sunken ones, but now there are lots of stretches without much to see.

Lake Manyara National Park is a gem, sometimes less visited than the more famous Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. But it is well worth a visit. The vegetation is different, as it has dense tropical forest at the base of the steep cliffs that are the Rift Valley wall which is very pronounced in this location. In these forests are huge rare tropical trees such as Mahogany, Ficus, and Sycamore interspersed with massive old Baobabs. The Park is known for its rich birdlife along the shores and in the swampy areas. You might see species such as the large Southern Ground Hornbill and the Saddle Bill Stork, and Malachite Kingfishers. There are elephants, buffalo, varieties of antelope, blue monkeys and many baboons. The "tree dwelling lions" publicized in the Park are rather more a legend than something you will see. The lake has expanded significantly in the last few years, so you will see drowned forest areas now, but in them you will also likely see water-loving species of buck. Don't miss Lake Manyara National Park. Have a picnic, but take bug spray.

Lake Manyara was the first step of our safari tour with Easy Travel. It is that kind of place that you will never forget!

We spent an afternoon at this national park. This is a fine spot to view forest birds, like silvery-checked hornbill. There were few flamingos on the lake, but the wetlands near the hippo pools had a fascinating variety of birds. We saw large mammals including zebra, hippo and wildebeest and was the only place we saw blue monkeys this trip. The best part of this site was the wetland birds.

It was our first day of safary.

Perfect place for this. Not too big, but big enough to feel how wild live is limitless.

Lot of animals, nice landscape, really a nice place.

This is the one park where we got to see elephants really really close. Lots of monkeys, baboons, velvet (blue balls) monkey, and the shy blue monkey. A great number of water birds. We did not see lions in trees though- it is a very rare site.

I loved Lake Manyara, we were given a brief initial tour to find out more about the park (the Rift Valley history) and then we were on our way. Lake Manyara is greener that Tarangire but we saw animals really close up - more so than in Tarangire. We were lucky to see elephants right next to our Land Rover. Highly recommend visiting this park.
