The star of this park is actually the red panda area. Arrive early and make a beeline for the red panda area where they and you free roam together.

So its a bit if a journey to get here, but as the newer baby brother of the Chengdu park it is well worth the effort. An easy stroll for all ages up the valley, frequent rest points and all the grounds are well managed. Pandas look happy and well looked after. The red pandas have a huge area to run free in. Visitors can walk through but if you are not so steady on your pins beware the path is super uneven. Top of the valley is a recently restored Qing dynasty temple. Half way up is a good coffee shop. Only 55Â¥ to enjoy, not over commercialized, the gifty shops are outside.

This is the third Panda facility that my wife and I visited, and I was so impressed by this facility, particularly the size and habitat for each Panda, as well as the signage, amenities, cleanliness, and organization of this Location, that it quickly has become our favorite panda bear conservation center in all of the world!
We just came from war long yesterday, and compared to that facility, the habitat enclosures here are far more conducive to a stress feet free environment for the panda bears – additionally, behind the compound or wild training areas to prepare pandas for a release back into the wilderness, and this location was right on the edge of a mountain range that seem to be perfect for Wild pandas – in fact, the red panda habitat near the top of this compound had free roaming red pandas that kept moving back-and-forth between the mountain and the facility.
Most importantly, this facility was tranquil, incredibly clean (including the bathrooms which were as good as any airport lounges bathrooms), and signage here, along with the environment for tourists, was impeccable; the best I’ve seen probably anywhere east of Germany!
The only negative aspect had nothing to do with the facility... even though there were so many signs requesting people to be silent, even during the shoulder season, many local Chinese visitors here raise their voices and even shouted very loudly: unbelievable, because you’d think that they would have more respect for their own wildlife, in a tranquil place like this.
With the amount of respect for the pandas by the staff here, I am sure that this facility does incredible rehabilitation and release work to rebuild the wild panda population in China – this is definitely the first place anybody visiting this region should come and see, if you’re interested in panda bear conservation!

We visited on the autumn moon holiday so there seemed like millions of people there. However the centre is well set up to cater for huge crowds and we managed to see most of the best sites. We only didn’t see everything because it is such a big place and we had just arrived in China the day before with not much sleep so were tired.
The nursery with the baby pandas was fascinating and there were enough adult and sub adult pandas on sight that you could photograph without people in it.

I found this visit very interesting and informative. I have always been fascinated by pandas and the Chinese are doing a great job to preserve them from extinction. It is good to know that it is extremely humid in this area.

We really enjoyed our volunteer day. Kids ages 15 and 12 loved it. Cleaned enclosures, prepared bamboo, fed panda through cage, walked throughout the beautiful, well-tended facility. Watched Interesting 1 hour documentary. Had fun in gift shop. Good, Authentic local food, buffet style, for lunch. Make sure you bring bug spray and water to drink.

We were 3 people, 2 wanting to be keepers, 1 wanting a photo & 1 just wanting to be in the Park we contacted West China Go via email & non of this was a problem, we initially were going to go to the panda park ourselves (250Y per person for them to take you)so Lily cane to our hostel to collect the money for the tour, but in the end we went with the transfer as it was 1.5hrs to get there & after a long day we just wanted to get back to the hotel & the driver was waiting for us. We had an amazing time being keepers, 3rd person met up with us several times & paid 20Y to have lunch with us which was tasty. I didn’t have the photo but my friend did, she was lucky enough to have it with a 18mnth old Panda who was very interactive & totally gorgeous, definitely worth the 1800Y.
I picked this company as they were the only ones charging 700Y for the keeper program, all the others were 1800Y. There were other people doing the program & some definitely got better treatment by the facility (probably paid a lot more than us) they had their own guid for photos etc, but as there were 2 of us we took lots of our own photos so it wasn’t s problem. If you want to get close to pandas do the keeper at least, it’s worth it.
When my friend had her photo taken with the panda I was allowed in to take her photo, (let the staff do it they are better), you get about 20seconds with the panda but that’s a lot of photos. There was 1 person on her own & they sent her away when they were having their photo taken, ask to stay, that way you also get to see the panda close up without bars) You get an hr after lunch to go & see the pandas, they were very active the day we were there, it was amazing. The Dujiangyan park is very quiet compared with the one near Chengdu but the reason I put 4 stars is I feel the enclosures were small and not as entertaining for the pandas as the ones at the breeding center. This park is a lot further out surely land is cheaper here! The reality is this is now the life of a panda, humans have a lot to answer for, I hope the money we pay to do photos/keepers does go to save these wonderful creatures.

No matter how old you are, you'll be delighted and amused by these gentle and solitary animals. Get there early in the day when they get fed. They are more active. Otherwise, you'll just see them sleeping.

This place, the Panda Valley or the Research Base is located in Chengdu (a new one opened in Dujiangyang). We visited as early as possible in the morning, and still there were like 300 people before us. Overall, we had the chance to see these amazing animals in their natural habitat, quite close. They were playful, and the adult ones were busy eating bamboo for the whole time or sleeping. This place also has few rare red pandas, which we were lucky to find. The facility is well maintained, secured, and clean. This is a must-see sight for all visitors coming to China, or to say Chengdu.

We enjoyed the Panda valley experience. While some of the pandas had to be seen behind glass, others could be seen directly.

hi there!
I have some questions for you please as we are travelling to Chengdu with our 9 year old who loves animals but we are confused as to which Panda base to take her to so here goes:
1. Is Panda Valley the same as the Dujiyangyan Panda Base?
2. If it is different is it worth visiting the Panda Valley instead the Chengdu Research Base?
3. If Panda Valley and The Dujiyangyan base are the same is it worth visiting if you are not going to be doing the volunteer programme (my daughter is below the age limit).
4. The whole idea here is to get to see pandas in a quiet place away from the crowds but in the natural habitat and not in cages so what do you recommend?

Going to volunteer the beginning of May. Anyone know the best way to get there ? It will just be myself and one other person, did most people find a driver in Chengdu or book one online ? We would like to be picked up and drippped back to Chengdu.

We are trying to make reservations, but they are saying we need a big form filled out by a doctor first. Is a physical enough? They have HIV tests on here and other tests for illnesses, which can be very costly. What did everyone else do?

We didn't get any of the tests done, it isn't necessary if you can get a doctor to confirm you are in good health. That's what we did.

Hi, is it a must to volunteer as panda keeper in order to get close to panda? Or one could pay a fee to get close to panda. Because we have old folks amongst us, serving as panda keepers not really feasible...thanks!

panda volunteer make a lots of clean up works just wait for feed 3 pieces of cake and apple to pandas cost 700CnY can not touch it , holdpanda more expensive but you can hold panda take nice photos
