Absolutely wonderful. The best zoo experience I have had in China. We arrived at 8:45am, just as the pandas were having breakfast.

The grounds of the zoo were lush and lovely..the bathrooms were impeccable and even though we traveled during the weekend in July, there were no crowds. The zoo is quite small and seeing the full breadth of it only takes approximately 60-90 minutes.

Recommend traveling from the city center super early (we left the hotel at 7:30) to arrive before the crowds and tour buses get there.

So glad we went. Truly an unmissable experience to get up close and personal with the pandas.

This is a nice place, info in English, plenty of pandas to see! It is definitely zoo-like, but the enclosures are clean and well cared for - the pandas looked very healthy. Worth a visit if you'd like to see one up-close!

I chose this Park as it was recommended to me for not being to overcrowded during the weekend. I wasn't disappointed at all. Arriving at opening time 8.30 was a bit busy but manageable to get through the door. After that it was very quiet as the park is pretty big so the crowd dissipates. I choose to take the panda carer experience (9 till 15h) and it was cool because you get to feed to panda and be very very close to them. There is enough time as well to visit the numerous enclosure with all the pandas. there is also some black bear and red panda in this park.
All the animal are well taking care of and seems happy.
If you want to see panda without the crowd, this is the place to go.

The centre is located up high on a mountain and a long hike up although alternative easier routes are available. The pandas are lovely and looks healthy and well cared for. Worth the trip to see them.

If you find this review helpful. Please click the 'helpful' button. So I know if I should continue to write these reviews.

From Chengdu we took metroline 2 to Xipu station. 6 rmb. Ticketmachine is in english.

At Xipu station I walked outside, turned left and walked to the Train station. It is right next to Xipu metro station. At the ticketcounter I bought a trainticket to Qingchengshan. 10 rmb. Took 40 minutes.

At Qingchengshan train station. You walk outside, ignore the taxi drivers. And turn left (when you are coming outside) walk walk and after 3 minutes you enter the busstation, it is outside. Not inside. There you will take bus 102 for 4 rmb. Make sure it is going in the right direction. Show the busdriver a photo of a panda or use google translate. The bus stops on the road in front of the park. Tripadvisor location is correct. See my photos for the location.

After I took bus 102 back to Qingchengshang station. You can also use this bus to go to the mountain (2 minutes) or back to station and take bus 101 to Dujiangyan irrigation system. See my review on that.

Note: there are many panda bases in the area and most reviews are placed under the wrong name. In my opinion, this one is the most convenient. Cheap price, not many people, enough panda's and easy to reach. I went during the day 13:00 in october and saw enough panda's moving and eating.

Really enjoyed the walk around the park (there is a car-train that can drive you around if you are less mobile). Several nice enclosures with pandas of varying age groups. Didn’t see any really small babies though. They also have some red pandas and even a black bear. Worth a visit!

Good site with fewer tourists so you can have a nicer experience. They have a good range of pandas from younger ones to older ones. I loved seeing them and have been actively looking out for the pandas I saw on the iPanda Facebook and Instagram feeds.

However, I wish they would enforce the request to keep volumes down more. Several of the tourists that were there were extremely loud, shouting at the pandas or trying to get their attention by tapping items against the boundaries of the enclosures. This was quite unsettling, but at least there are fewer tourists than at other sites. Also wish the panda enclosures were bigger - they were smaller than I expected.

The name of the center is China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, Dujiangyan Base but they also go by Panda Ark. Their direct email is pandaeducatecenter@163.com. They respond promptly in English so if you would like to volunteer email them for their medical form which your doctor at home can fill out and the cost is CNY900. The center opens at 8:30 and the cost to visit is CNY58 assuming you don't volunteer. From Chengdu by train: you can take subway to XIPU(犀浦), then take the train around 7:53 in the morning from XIPU(犀浦)to Qingchengshan Railway station(青城山站) then take No. 102 bus(the last stop is街子 to panda base(熊猫疾控中心. The train is about 40 minutes and the bus about 15 and the bus runs frequently. On maps.me the place is called Dujiangyan Panda Base and is about 3.5 kilometers west of Qīngchéng Shān. By bus from Chengdu from chadianzi (茶店子客运站) to dujiangyan (都江堰)then take No. 102 bus(街子)to panda base. BUS: 1 hour, 102 BUS: 40 minutes.

It was such a wonderful experience to be able to volunteer at the panda base. Panda are such adorable nature that wins your heart. The program I was on was a 3-day volunteer program which you paid for your own flight/meal/accommodation and in return I got to feed the panda and clean their residence. The caretakers are working long hours everyday and they are very professional. I’m glad that I got to help them to prepare the food for panda during my stay. It wasn’t easy to break the bamboo as they are super strong and not easy to be broken! The reason why the bamboo has to be broken is mainly to protect panda’s teeth. The highlight of the program was to allow each of volunteer to feed the panda twice a day but you are not supposed to pad or any forms of physical interactions as it might get yourself hurt. Panda doesn’t attack you but they are not 100% harmless. I wanted to give credit to the caretakers at the panda base in China, they don’t make a lot but they sure contribute a lot to panda.

We visited the Dujiangyan Panda Base today (58 RMB) and despite the rain, it was the perfect time to visit as the panadas were out, they were extremely active and it WAS UNCROWDED (yay!!!). We had many fantastic photo opportunities. Wander up the road to the furthest enclosures. There you will find 2 pandas (near the red pandas and black bear) that were very playful (play fighhting and rumbling). So glad we decided to visit the Dujiangyan Panda Base! Highly recommended.
