Stopped on our way into town from the Camino. Museum is small - takes about an hour - but it was interesting to see the chocolate presses and the equipment used. The video we watched did not have English subtitles as another review suggested. All of the displays are in Spanish. They did give us some English cards to carry along that provided highlights for each of the rooms. They gave us three chocolate squares to taste at the end which was nice, and they have good chocolate options to purchase. The small children we saw were bored/squirming/crying so don’t think it’s something toddlers would enjoy.

If was fun to explore this small museum and learn the importance of chocolate in Astorga's history. An added treat was a chocolate sample at the end of the visit.

I was curious about this Museum. We were greeted when we got in. You can visit the museum at your own pace and enjoy reading about the history of the introduction of chocolate in Spain. It is interesting seeing all the old and modern machinery involved in the process. As a plus at the end of the visit you can taste a sample of the different types of chocolate that they have for sale. The chocolate was excellent!!

Historical displays about making and advertising chocolate were interesting and well done. However, this is a small museum and the chocolate to purchase was expensive. We got some as gifts, however, and appreciated the fine local wrapping paper.
I wouldn't travel to Astorga just for this museum, but combined with other Roman spots in town and the Jewish gardens... it's worth a look!

Very reasonable to visit, only € 2.-
Interesting to see why Astorga became known for chocolate and also how it was turned into the chocolate bars. The hot choclate one gets in Astorga, is the best I have ever had, thick and very tasty. Scooped up with a churros, simply saves the day.
The video, they showed was also interesting, but the subtitles followed the spoken Spanish, and they do speak very fast in Spain, hence it could be difficult to read it all and follow the pictures.

It's a nice place for a 5 minute stop. Chocolate it's pricy and nothing fancy to make it different from any other place selling chocolate around

Overall, it’s ok, but disappointing and could be so much more.

The museum has an interesting video on the history in Spanish with English subtitles.

All of the exhibits are solely labelled in Spanish, but there are cards at the entrance to each room in a number of different languages. However these give a brief overview of the room as opposed to explaining the exhibits or people mentioned in the room. Whilst it’s great to see the exhibits having a card to explain it is never as good as text next to the item and in this case it only provided an overview of the room.

Provided with a square of three different types of chocolates to try. The chocolate is ok, but not our favourite. Overall prices for the chocolate in the shop were reasonable.

We reached the museum with two excited children, only to find that because we had arrived 28 minutes prior to closing time, we were not allowed to enter. Even though we said that we were from London, it made no difference. If you are not allowed to enter after 13:30 then that should be the closing time. Such a pity that they couldn’t make any dispensation. It certainly left a bad taste in our mouths and that wasn’t the chocolate!

The mansion where the museum is located was built around 1911
Very nice and interesting museum covering all the aspects of the chocolate industry, from the origins of cacao to the manufacturing of chocolate and its marketing.
Really enjoyed discovering the manufacturing process, the tools used, smelling the different aromas too! Brilliant work... it would be perfect if the information could be made available in other languages (English, French...) after all, chocolate is universally loved.
The visit takes at least half an hour.
Right at the entrance and on your way out, there is a shop where you can taste different types of chocolate and buy chocolate with various percentage of cacao. The prices are fair compared to local shops and the choice is very large.

Fee: 2.5 Euros
Closed on Mondays.
From Tuesday to Saturday: 10'30am-2pm and 4'30pm-7pm
On Sundays: 10'30am-2pm.

We found out of the chocolate museum via the hotel. It was a easy ten minute walk and we enjoyed the visit. Interesting to see how chocolate actually should be made.
