An important proteced area, Natura 2000 site and beautiful cultural landscape. The area presents good opportunites for snorkeling and underwater photography. Care is needed not to transport or import any non-native species. The Lake's waters host many endemic species found only in this part of Greece.

We stopped here on our trip from Patras to Lefkada, approaching from the south after visiting the Old Port in Nafpaktos. The road is slow, twisty, hilly and in need of repair of which is ongoing. A small Greek Orthodox Church near a monastery makes a perfect destination giving direct access to Greek's largest natural lake and free parking. Very pretty with herons in view.
