The abbey dominates the medieval village, with a large terrace that offers a view of the rooftops and a distant valley that looks like a sea. A few steps, an olive tree that looks like a bonsai in front of the majestic building, the interiors are bare but you can see the grandeur of an engineering work, unusually it has transparent windows and has no colored mosaic with sacred images. Simple and beautiful.

Well worth the trip to San Martino al Cimino to visit this fine example of Italian Gothic architecture. Situated in the highest part of the walled city the Cathedral enjoys a commanding view over Viterbo and the surrounding countryside. While you are there a it is well worth to visit the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj situated across from the Cathedral.

Loving the mediaeval monuments and coming from visiting the Belgian Abbeys, I was expecting something more... too much refurbished in the centuries... of course, I'm not a connoiseur...

This Medieval cathedral reminds you of the Puy-du-Dome Cathedral in France. Essential, no thrills but with a great atmosphere.
