Absolutely stunning. The ancient gardens along with the incredible grotto were spectacular. The house is open by guided tour only around the 1st floor. Felt very private and exclusive. Finding it can be tricky. But when you do it will be well worth it.

We found this villa totally by chance whilst looking for a restaurant so after a quick chat with the lovely guy on the gate decided to return another day for a visit.

We really enjoyed the morning we spent there. You can just imagine how fabulous it must have been in its prime and having visited Versailles I can totally see the influence.

We found the hidden grotto behind the stairs and do wonder if “The Forbidden Corner” back home in Yorkshire was influenced by this!!

Our tour of the villa was so personal and fascinating and we feel honoured that our guide chose to speak English.

You must just go and see for yourself - I can only hope that with more visitors they may be able to make some of those water features work before our next visit.

I made an appointment for a guided tour of the villa and gardens. (The website shows opening hours, but there's no ticket booth or obvious entrance, so call ahead to ensure hours and/or a guide). 12 euros/pp. Allow up to two hours. You can also take a picnic and stay as long as you'd like. Two of the onsite caretakers showed us first the family chapel, which is still opened at least once a year for locals to attend Mass. (Needs some TLC, but keep in mind its from ~1600). The grounds have a fascinating history of both English and French influence and it's fun to imagine what they looked like at their peak, particularly the sunken gardens, caves and tunnel. The reflecting pools are spot on, in both front and back of the villa. And the villa itself is full of original furniture and frescoes. We were led through the main floor - spectacular! The family still comes from Rome each summer (no heat or A/C) and stays upstairs. Not much blooming in Feb. and the lemon trees were all still in the limonaia (citrus garages); would be fun to see it in the height of summer.

Some beautiful places are underestimated because they are too near bigger cities as are Firenze or Lucca. Beautiful palace with fine garden is really interesting for a long visit with small group, with your partner or family. Big group will spoil such a place. It is nice natural spot, changed to interesting park during centuries with water mirrors, decorated grotto, selected trees. Building is the cake in the middle. It holds some patina and visitor can feel the history in rooms, furniture, paintings and atmosphere.

The gardens are undergoing some restoration and addition of new features but are certainly worth exploring. Clearly some of the old features ( and some newer like the 1920,s swimming pool) are showing signs of damage and access is restricted but this does not seriously detract from enjoying the gardens. The inside is interesting and although our tour was mainly conducted in Italian the guide made lots effort to include us (the only English speakers in the group) with a English printed guide and answering our questions in English. The tour took about 40 minutes and was more than adequate to appreciate the main rooms of the villa and it's history. Overall we had a very enjoyable afternoon.

I definitely have mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, we had a rather similar visit to the former Medici villa at Poggio a Caiano the day before at no cost (a state museum) so from a value perspective, this seemed overpriced. On the other hand, Torrigiani is one of the few privately owned historic villas that seems to offer a tour of the interior, which is the reason that we decided to visit. Viewed from the latter perspective, and understanding what must be the enormous cost of trying to maintain a property like this, you can understand the high entry fee. so, if you are keen to see one, this may well be the best choice.
The villa tour itself is somewhat short, being limited to the main floor, and while I would say it was not "hurried", I would also say we were not encouraged to linger. The tour guide's English was flawless, and he was extremely knowledgeable about the house. The historical artifacts collected over the many years of the home's use were varied and quite interesting. As for the gardens, they were pretty enough, although admittedly gardens aren't really my thing.
Presumably if you are reading this review it's because you are intrigued by having a chance to view one of these fading beauties, so you probably won't be disappointed. For the more casual tourist, you might be better off making the drive to Poggio a Caiano.

I have visited the gardens of this villa with small groups of people many times over the past 9 years and they are delightful. There is also a huge ornate pond, originally stocked with fish to feed the families living in the Villa since 1590's. Much work has been done to restore these gardens and the Villa itself over the past couple of years. Fortunately, they haven't reinstalled the Water Games that the Nobility used to love to play tricks on guests strolling the gardens in silk dresses. Jets of water would suddenly spurt out and have them running for cover only to find themselves drenched from another direction! Some of these are in the Grottos at the back of the Garden of Flora and no longer available to visit for safety reasons but the Baroque fronted Palace & Gardens, believed to be modelled on Versailles as the original owner Nicola Santini was the Ambassador for the then Republic of Lucca, are definitely worth a visit.

Suffice to say this is another splendiferous Italian garden with some water features and a fine Villa- well worth a visit. The earlier part with grottos and statuary- Drotto dei Venti (winds) is in somewhat poor repair but its naughtiness is charmingly evident and it is worth seeking out (Park plan number 5). Elegant and created over about one hundred years (?) this is a delightful place on a late Spring or early Fall day outside the main tourist season. The surrounding urban sprawl gives no indication of just how lovely it is within the garden walls. Definitely a pleasant visit giving a great stroll for families and grown ups. Look at the Villa too and take the tour if you can.

Spent 2 hours doing the grounds and villa. The architecture interesting. So the tour as it adds context to everything. Gardens were not well kept and the experience a bit disappointing. 12 euros for entry and tour. Pick a non scorcher time of day. The secret passageway behind zigzag garden and wine cellar were very interesting.

Well worth a visit!
We had a guided tour of the lower part of the house - the guide was interesting and amusing in both Italian and English!
The rooms in the villa still have the original frescoes and furnishings - a very interesting tour. The grounds are beautifully kept with many interesting features to visit - the grotto, the walk under the colonnaded wall behind the statue, the woodland walk, the cellars, the ponds, the family chapel.
Toilets are available in the grounds and parking spaces are freely available just outside the entrance to the grounds.
