Like very many of the other recommended tourist attractions, the Journal and Museum were closed due to the covid pandemic when we were in Ashcroft. We learned that this building is the only brick-faced one in town. It is the present-day home to the Journal as well as the Museum. Not only are these building sitting side-by-side on 4th and Brink Streets but they are made from very different materials: one is brick and the other, Spanish stucco. I hope to return one day to see inside of the Museum and learn more about Ashcroft's place in the history of the region.

On a very hot day!
We were a party of seniors visiting.
A lovely museum with welcoming staff and volunteers.
The cafe has sandwiches and yummy cakes. We recommend sausage sandwiches and cheese scones.Get there early as the scones were all gone at 3pm.
Don't miss the Pefab and chapel with music of the era.
The chapel is a good place to cool off.
Lots of seats around and picnic tables near the entrance.
The introduction exhibition is great for all ages.
Pick up a map and check it out if you have limited walking as we are.

Great place, really nice displays and very educational.
There was a really good amount if information and artefacts detailingbthe history of Ashcroft but also about the way First Nations were impacted and affected by European settlers.

We were greeted by Kathy , local born, extremely friendly and well informed on local history. As the full time Curator Kathy excelled at introducing us to the foundation of the museum and took us on a personal tour. The design of the museum is perfect to represent all aspects of local life with rooms and windows filled with artefacts. From the family room to the kitchen, one can walk by the candy shop, the grocery store,. Every aspect of local life of the times is represented, both First Nations, Chinese & Caucasian.
The displays include fly fishing, mining, Native crafts. There is even a room for children to enjoy both artifacts & projected film history. Admission is by. Donation & worth every penny of whatever one can afforD. The museum is totally locally funded.
Strongly recommend one takes a detour off the highway.

The Ashcroft museum gives some great incite not only into the history of Ashcroft but of the Cariboo trail and the hauling of goods to Barkerville in the days of the Gold Rush there.

While geocaching in the area for Gold Country caches and stickers, for a gold bar....we stopped in mainly to get in out of the blazing sun! We ended up staying longer than anticipated, about an hour. This tiny community of Ashcroft, has put together a first class exhibit of area antiquities and have brought the past to life. Just a really good educational tour for both young and old. Cost is by donation.

On walking down the Main Street with a camera around my neck, looking like a tourist, I was advised by two locals to have a look in the museum.
I wasn't disappointed.
A very informative journey on how the town became established.
