Great cafe and walk!

Really lovely cafe and walk! It’s great to have a beautiful site that is well looked after. Had a cake and a hot drink from the visitor centre and then a good walk along the river. It’s good to know that the money you pay for a visit goes to keeping the site so well maintained!

Having visited lots of nature reserves I can say this is the worst place I’ve ever been. The staff were abrupt, the warden ( or mafia) who walk the site were dressed rough and acted like everyone was a criminal. The site is littered with dirty broken old fishing kit ( oh they love them they pay more and are allowed close to the nature) high metal fences throughout the site … don’t be fooled by the fact they say they have hides. There’s one it looks across to the footpath, good for spotting others paying for a walk…..it’s not a reserve it’s a path you pay £4 to walk on. Don’t waste your money or time.

We are sorry that you feel this was your experience. This week we have had a minority of bird watchers; breaking into the reserve, trampling on sensitive habitat and walking on paths that are not marked/constitute no access and could be potentially dangerous to visitor safety. This was to gain access for a photograph of a rare visit from a redheaded smew. The warden that you speak of was a volunteer that would have been ensuring that this lack of regard for the sensitive areas was not happening. We are sorry to hear that you felt he was rude. We feel that £4 to visit a nature trail in a safe and managed habitat is a fair price to pay for the upkeep of the reserve and the ongoing reinvestment in habitat management. Disappointing

Very disappointing. We paid £4 per adult to do a walk along the river, woods and a large stretch between an ugly 6ft electric fence with warning signs all over it and a busy road. We were looking forward to our visit as we had seen lovely pictures of the lakes and had heard good reviews. When we did the outer red walk we thought we must have done something wrong and missed the lakes so we went back to the visitor centre to ask how to get to the inner blue walk on the map to see the lakes- that was when they told us it was closed off for fishing and the public can no longer go there. Huge disappointment as we went there for the scenic lakes - we could have gone for a lovely river/woods walk anywhere for free or for a minimal parking charge.

Lovely hidden secret

Taverham mill is a fantastic nature haven. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit as spring was starting to bloom. The area around the visitor centre is absolutely gorgeous and a lovely place to have a picnic (with benches available to sit at or you can just plop a blanket near the river). The walk takes you through a variety of scenic habitats, with a bird hide and highland cows for your entertainment. Highly recommended as an escape from the city.

Had a lovely walk round the reserve today and the children enjoyed seeing the Highland cattle. The carrot cake in the onsite cafe is possibly the best I've tried. Very friendly staff and will definitely be returning soon

Beautiful quiet place for a walk any time of the year. Usually several birds and the Highland cattle to see. We always top the experience with a coffee and delicious cake! Other facilities include a small safe play area for children and several picnic tables overlooking the river

What a treasure of a place!

We’ve just discovered Taverham Mill, and what a treasure it is! There’s a lovely nature trail which takes you along the river and through the woods. There’s also a fantastic play area for the kids and a café to treat yourself to a slice of cake and tea. We'll definitely be visiting again!

Fabulous Sunday walk

Everything was just perfect. Felt very safe as they have it set up very well and the toilet was very clean, especially for a site of that nature (lots of muddy boots). The walk itself was stunning and we had the best view of the river Wensun. My granddaughter and to be honest all of the adults loved the weir.The walk is set out very well and you get the most lovely end to it as you pass their Highland Cattle, which we all loved. A must for everyone and we cannot wait to return. Well done to all the team:)

On my frequent visits to Taverham Mill I find it to be a relief and a haven from the situation we all find ourselves in at this time. It is a wonderful walk at any time of the day in all season. The Autumn colours are especially lovely. The small band of members of staff and volunteers work tirelessly to keep everything in order and are both welcoming and knowledgeable regarding the wild life. The river and Mill race are spectacular at the moment. In view of the constant rain wellies are advisable in some places. I think the herd of 6 highland cattle wish they had some as they plod patiently around the meadows.
