We loved our time with the Gili Island Diving Centre. We found the staff competent, focussed on safety, friendly and good fun. My partner and I did a refresher course then we did 4 dives. The Dive Master Wendy was patient and supportive and the guys in the boats were fantastic in helping us to gear up and then take our gear at the end of the dive. We highly recommend this dive centre.

We dived in Egypt, Australia and Bali. Unfortunately, Gili Island Divers delivered a suboptimal service and we decided to move to a different diving school after only one dive, for the following reasons:
1) There was no sufficient material to rent and/or not really fitting
2) There was no real service regarding transportation of materials to the boat and/or sufficient logistics (where is what, no dry area on the boat etc) + no weight belt offered, only after we demanded one.
3) There was no information that you have to walk to the boat crossing seagrass with sea urchins + no support when someone lost his flip-flops
4) Boat had sharp edges and someone hurt himself by dropping of backwards
5) There was only a minimal briefing which did not mentioned heavy current at the first stop
6) There was basically no guiding under water
7) They told us stories, that one day before two went up to the surface without safety-stop from 22m;
However, at least our German guidemaster (female) was caring and supported very well. Clearly a learning to leave a dive school when you do not feel confident straight from the beginning. First Diving experience where I did not really felt save and/or comfortable. We did not do a second dive and went to another diving school.

The staff is funny and professional, the owners are available to your needs and the equipment is good.

We had a wonderful experience with Gili Island Diving Center. I did my first two dives with them and it was so amazing. The owners are really helpfull and the local crew was really professional. We practiced in the swimming pool before going in the Ocean. Before the dives they did briefings and told us information about the divespots. The underwater world was great! We saw many turtles, sharks and fish. We did the dives in small groups which was nice. Definetly would choose Gili Island Diving Center again! Thank you so much for the great experience!

We chose this dive center because the center has locals with a lot of experience as instructors and dive masters. This gave us a lot of confidence to get our diving certificate.
Also it felt good that the couple running the diving centre employs only local people and do a lot for the local community, instead of westerns invading.
We had no rush in our training. I liked this a lot because we were also there for our vacation and we didn’t want to rush into things. So their flexibility was much appreciated!
We had the chance to first get comfortable in the pool while doing our practices before we went into the ocean. Our instructor, Thori, was very patient and calm, also when we were in the ocean for our first real dive. I was very nervous but he held my arm during the whole dive, which comforted me a lot! For some skills that I did not feel confident doing, we went over them and tried again and again, and I could go back to the pool to practice them.
Before you start off the training, you have to declare that your health is good, including not having problems with your sinuses etc, however the questions (standard PADI) refer to a very vast amount of time e.g., “do you have a history of ....”, if you answer YES to a few of them, I suggest you to first get examined by a physician at the clinic (it was about 5 euros) before you do any dives. It is the best if you ask this to your assigned instructor yourself rather than expecting it to come from them. One of the staff members from Gili Island Diving Centre guided us to a clinic were we got tested for blood pressure and other important things.

I got my Advanced OW and the master divers are really helpful and kind, always felt at ease and enjoyed my 9 dives with them!

Me and my girlfriend was looking for diving centre across the Gili Air. The last stop was Gili island diving centre. We spoke with one of the Dutch owner he seems nice and told us lots of stuff. So we decided to dive with them.
We bought three dive each and decided to go diving only mornings. When we went out with the boat the crew assembled the gear for us without asking any permission. First dive was nice but my girlfriend has problem with her regulator. When she took regulator from her mouth the air flow doesn’t stop. She said this to our dive master after dive. Only bad thing when our dive master pushed out from the hole an octopus.
Next morning we went for another dive. During very low tide they told us to walk to the boat without shoes. People from other dive centre look at us like if we are crazy walking there without any protection because there is lots of sea jezku. When we check our equipment My girlfriends regulator doesn’t work at all. She ask if she can have spare one. She been told under water will work fine or to use her second stage. After couple minutes of arguing about safety dive master switch his regulator with her. I found out my tank is only on 170 bars so I ask for another tank. You can’t imagine the face of our dive master how he look at me when I told him it’s my right to chose different on if I’m not happy. After all of this we finally went to dive. Our dive master found out the regulator doesn’t work after couple of seconds under water so he switch for his second stage. The rest of dive was ok. As we went back to island I want to speak with the owner but I can’t found him so I text him what’s happened. And if we can talk about this next day.
The third morning we went to the dive centre and I spoke with the owner. He’s only apologised true message but when we talk face to face he spoke with us with arrogant intonation. After all of this we decided to went for our third dive. On the boat the staff found out they missing one tank. So we went to the boat of another dive centre to ask if we can borrow one tank.
All of the centres have the same price but not all of them are providing same service. You can find much better diving centre on the island like ocean5 diving centre or manta dive. So I’ll avoid this dive centre next time.

Dear guest and divers from our shop, No no, you're recensie is not the truth and based on lies and you know that as well. We do every day checking, services and fixing our equipment for o-rings and even registrate every amount of tanks we refill, changing filters and compressor oil etc. We log everything. Becaus we are Padi. After probably a o-ring was not working well or right from the equipment. You are not feeling comfertable so our divemaster took over the set from your wife, we understand that from not experienced divers. But nobody put anybody in danger.
During your dive you both touched our marinelife and
after our divemaster warned you for touching turtles, you make you're own story becaus you knew it is wrong and not done padi teach you in your cours. You had conversation with the owners and one of them (dutch) warned you off that and explained both of you that you as certified diver we never accept that also about checking and do services to equipment. Maybe that is why he looks arrogant to you becaus he had the feeling that you want to have your 3 dives each for free becaus of a o-ring was not working well. Maybe our divemaster and the owner make you upset. After your comment private the owners descided and talk with our divemaster that you have to set up your equipment yourself but you make a lot of mistakes and couldnt do it both yourself, we completly understand for not being experienced open water divers.
Our shop has 3 padi dive instructors and be instructor for more and less 20 years and did over 9000+ dives each, our shop has 2 padi divemaster and guiding for 6 years and did over 3500+ dives each. So gili island diving center has 30.000+ dives. Please wright a honest comment and recensie instead of a frustrated one becaus you left happy and had great dives with us. Everybody comes as a friend and leaves as a friend, you aspected a 10 and get a 9,9. We do dive briefings every dive as buddy checking. And yes we set up equipments becaus it is a service to our guest and divers.
Keep on diving and taking care of the oceans and reefs all over the world.

My boyfriend and I are both PADI certified (AOW + rescue) and decided to go diving while at Gili Air. We chose this dive shop solely based on it being next door to where we stayed. When we booked the dive, they did not check our PADI licences. When we went out with the boat, the crew assembled the gear for us, without asking for permission. Since diving is a sport that involves some risk, I like to be in total control of my own gear. We barely got to check our gear and do the buddy check before the guy leading the dive rushed us into the water. I discovered that there was a malfunction in my air gauge (the needle was moving every time I took a breath of air), and I really wanted to cancel my dive. The guy leading the dive somehow talked me into diving with this gear anyway. A professional dive school would have taken this seriously, and would not have let me dive with this gear.
During the dive, the guy leading the dive was careless to the envrionment. He swam right into some kelp-like plant and almost ripped it up. Then he almost stepped on a turtle.
When we were doing our safety stop, breathing got really heavy, indicating that I was running out of air - even though the air gauge showed that I had more than enough air. This was probably the result of the malfunction. And at the same time, the hose connecting the air gauge to the tank sprung leak.
I was so relieved when we finished our dive and got back on the boat.
I've read the other reviews on this place, and it generally looks like people are satisfied, so maybe we just were super unlucky. But that still doesn't change the fact that this was an unpleasant and unsafe experience.

Hi guest and divers from our shop. In the time i was not in the shop that period that you diving with us but because i had to pick my legal stay and working permission for indonesia gouverment. I wish we could meet eachother personal to talk about it. Please read parts our reaction. In our shop you come as a friend and you leave as friend.

My partner and I stumbled across this shop while cycling along the beach in Gili Air. My boyfriend is Dutch and ended up chatting with one of the Dutch owners for a while. We talked a lot with them about the earthquake in Lombok and the effect it’s had on the area. We love that they support the local community by hiring mostly Indonesian staff and provide training so they have opportunities to grow! So many dive shops are full of expat DM’s and instructors so this was refreshing and we are happy to support them! Both my partner and I are experienced divers and after talking with them we decided to try them out. We booked a night dive for the following day and had a great experience!! It was just the 2 of us and our guide, Zu. He was awesome! I am a DM myself and Zu provided the perfect amount of guidance and freedom that experienced divers enjoy! I saw a peacock mantis shrimp hunting, a small wreck, and the most awesome Zu pointed out a couple of ornate ghost pipefish! This was super special and over all we had an amazing time with them. Highly recommend diving with these guys if in Gili Air! Speaking of, if you are hesitant of the Gili’s after the earthquake DO NOT BE! The islands are 85% up and running and just as gorgeous as ever! We were here 2 months after the earthquake and it was perfect but there were no people. We had the island almost to ourself. The best way to support these beautiful places is to go! You won’t regret it!
