Pedestrianised in the main so easy to wander through to shop (tourist crafts, clothes, fruit and vegetables, groceries, local produce ) eat (cafes, restaurants, bars, ice cream and bakery / cake lines) from around 10am -10 pm. Prices of eating establishments generally very reasonable but you can go budget to high brow just look out for unrequested items and send them back immediately and check you havent been asked to pay for them despite this. The popular one is bread (usually very cheap but not everyone can eat it) or bottled water. We got caught by a bar that served us some sides which we took to be complimentary but actually were €10.
Look out for the odd car, delivery scooter or bike whizzing through. Felt very safe even after dark and not being hassled to enter premises was a plus. Goes from quiet to really busy especially when up to 4 cruise liners arrive and leave in one day. A bit oppressive on hot days because there was little breeze passing through but plenty of shade in all the little lanes and alleys where you could get lost briefly.
A UNESCO site but seems quite run down and shabby and could do with investing all the tourist dollars that must flood into the area. Whilst the streets are clean they are uneven underfoot and many buildings needed attention to exteriors.

Quaint little village by the sea, very old buildings giving it character, cobblestones everywhere, not easy to walk on, some interesting history.

Stopped here as part of a shore excursion on a cruise ship. Had the usual trinket shops, jewelry, clothing, restaurants. Very disappointed in a lot of the clothing shops, cute clothes, but sizing was one size fits all. That doesn’t work for a lot of us.

Staying in nearby Kanoni, I took the bus three times into Corfu Town to experience different facets of the Old Town. Obviously, the Old Fort dominates, and is well worth the 6Euro admission, the Liston townhouses look stunning, and the waterfront offers lovely views across the sea to the Greek mainland mountains.
My wife enjoyed the shopping streets and alleys in the evening, when it was cooler. However, It's great simply to wander around the old district. If a street ends abruptly at a series of steps, climb them! I found all sorts of quiet squares with only a few cats for company. It was hard to get lost as all paths led down to the waterfront sooner or later.

This is the most attractive part of Corfu town. You can easily spend 1-2 hours strolling the cobbled streets, gazing at the wide range of tourist orientated shops, sipping a coffee or beer or taking photo opportunities. If you’ve precooked a restaurant it’s possibly worth checking you can find it in advance, as it is an absolute maze and signposting is poor.

We love Corfu Town but this return visit found it overrun by people. Four cruise ships were in and the streets were packed! It was also a rainy day and we found the streets were very slippy. Cafes were heaving and it was difficult to find a decent seat. Will check when the cruise ships are in before a return visit!

Corfu old town is a very historic. There's lots of narrow street full of all the stuff you never realised you wanted. But as soon as you stop to look at something they are on you like flies

A warren of narrow streets and easy to get lost! But here is always someone to help you when needed. Avoid the town when cruise ships are in port. It does get very crowded.

If you get a chance to go, this is a fabulous place for all.
Young and old, religous, non-religous, shoppers, foodies and great wine.
Tailor your visit.
The Church of Agios Spyridon is very moving and we lit a candle for all our loved ones no longer with us.
There is also the Cathedral.
The Palace of St Michael and St George is impressive.
We popped in the gardens dedicated to Lawrence & Gerald Durrell.
The best for us was going through the narrow streets with many shops restuarants it was so buzzy and full of life... 10/10 did not expect it to be as vibrant and nice as that.

Kassiopi or Corfu town??

It really depends on what type of break you are looking for.
If it's a relaxing beach holiday in a beautiful surrounding, then definitely Kassiopi with a couple of lovely beaches (never crowded) but also a great place for eating, exploring and just taking it easy.
However,if it's more "cultural" then Corfu Town is a must.Plenty of places to visit, great museums, and lovely little alleyways with various shops. The town does boast a "beach" but it is really only harbour like into the sea.
Either way two great places.
I'm currently on holiday in Corfu and was wondering is there a better day when it's a bit quieter to visit Corfu Town and where to park. Thanks.

Tuesdays and Fridays are really busy days because of cruise ships visiting Corfu. Wensdays and Thursdays are a quieter, Sundays for sure. There are parkings in Liston Square, San Rocco Square and near the old port.

Hi! Last year we got the green bus from Agios gordios to Corfu town and were dropped of fairly far out from the old town, near a lidl or aldi (cant remember which) .. you say you were dropped off quite centrally, do you mean near the old town? I am wondering did we get off the bus too early? everyone seemed to be getting off, I think it was the central bus station..

Hi because you stayed at Ag. Gordis you got on the green bus that takes you to its station which is not centrally located. I coming from Dassia got on the blue bus which dropes you off at San Rocco Sq which is central.
