DONT MISS THIS
Mar 2021
If you are driving through to Glenorchy you will enjoy the fabulous scenery all of the way. Stop and put your toes in the water... how cool it is will depend on when you are there.....but PLEASE dont go past this garden, It is absolutely amazing. Sculptures of Yoga Poses through out along with some incredible other quirky artworks. The biggest Eel and trout you will have seen outside a river, pear trees, apple trees. Roses and hundreds of different plant species that again depending on what time of year you are there will be out. Geese, Peacocks, ducks.... seriously we actually were so overwhelmed by everything we hardly spoke to one another and even when we got back to the car we were still taking the visit in. This is a must do. $15 is worth every cent. You do it in your own time. Lovingly created by the owner who must be the cleverest man in the world to create some of these sculptures.... am still fizzy about it.

Amazing art garden.
Mar 2020
A hidden gem behind the hedge. Prepare to be amazed by the quirky and unique garden created by one man. This is a must for everyone who goes to Glenorchy! Easy to drive past if you are not looking out for it. You are able to book into the lodge to stay, but also able just to have a tour of the house and visit the garden ( for a fee). The garden is full of flowers, fruit trees, exotic plants and art sculptures. There are chickens and ducks co-habitating with the art works and around every corner is a surprise. Just 20 minutes from Queenstown, on the edge of Lake Wakatipu it's in a picturesque location ... a place to recharge the batteries!

Value your Soul - visit hear
Des 2019
This quiet 5 acre garden is tucked away on the road from Queenstown to Glenorchy, it is 28 kilometres, you will see the sign on right hand side of the road Garden & Lodge 400 metres on right, take it, it will be the best decision on your holiday. Sit down and breathe in the wonder of this place, you are surrounded by little tranquil pools, thousands of flowers in so many colours, birds singing, ducks wandering, peacock showing off strutting around. There are many sculptures and do visit the house and see for yourself the talent of Thomas the host, he has created a magnificent house, the likes I guarantee you have never see before. I thought the house in Teneriffe by Cesarre Manrique was exquisite but truly this beats it for interior design. I could have stayed hear for hours, I shall be booking in my family and friends for a stay over, the best gift I could ever bestow on loved ones. See for yourself. ENJOY.

A hidden gem
Jul 2019 • Pasangan
We stumbled onto this place because of a small sign along the road (between Queenstown and Glenorchy). Are we glad! it is a real gem - something quite unique. We have seen many artistic sites around the world, but I would put this (the work of one man) among the top ten. It is a combination of great imagination, creativity, talent, skill, and hard work. Those who come to New Zealand to experience the great beauty that is here should not miss this outanding example. It's only a half-hour drive from Queenstown.
(I feel sorry for the two sourpusses who gave it only one star. Because they didn't like the attitude of the owner's wife they gave it only one star without even looking at it. We found her to be a delightful person.)

Very rude lady

We had a very unpleasant experience with a very rude lady, so left. This was the most unwelcoming place we have ever tried to visit. Not a dream, unfortunately, and definitely not paradise.

This is unlike anything you have ever seen in your life. I stumbled upon this random turnoff with my 72 year old mother that happens to like roses and we saw a sign that says "3000 roses, point of interest" and decided to take 5 min, (that ended up being 2 hours). First we saw the gate and scuptures and then met the owner and sole caretaker and artist. This is like an eco friendly-earth ship-ecological message-hippie-artist-handmade-inventor-artist-wonderland that you truly cannot imagine. I actually cried and i'm a cynical atheist...this man...Thomas who created this place, personally showed us around and how he used nothing but like a hammer and rocks and regular glue to basically make a priceless work of art out of his basic home, is like a fairytale saint. It was such and honor to even know a person like this exists somewhere. Everywhere we turned there was more, including a handmade fairytale staircase to nowhere up a eucalyptus tree and and outdoor bathroom that when you flushed, pushed new, fresh water across a freaking LIVE fishtank with goldfish, and then made the handmade stone sink pour out water to wash your hands, while it was growing plants inside and watering them by traping water on a stick stuck to the roof...I mean...WHAT??? You have to see this to believe it. This is nothing anywhere else in the world. I would have paid $150 to see it. He should give lectures and teach workshops. This is just one guy and his wife. do not miss this. Bring a camera and a video.

Truly stunning place of beauty
Feb 2019 • Pasangan
We spotted the sign for the garden on our way up to Glenorchy and decided to visit on the return trip to Queenstown. It was so worth it. An intensely planted space, absolutely full of vibrant colour and interesting statuary, all created and tended solely by one person over a couple of decades. We were warmly greeted and given a tour of the house which contains amazing pieces of furniture carved from massive pieces of wood, and walls covered with small stones collected from the river bank. We were so taken by the beauty of the property and the way it has been designed to make the most of the site. Truly unusual and highly recommended.

We stopped here by chance as we were returning from Glenorchy. Very glad we did because it is one of the most interesting and inspiring places I have visited anywhere. The creativity and passion that this place exudes is a tribute to the owners. Do not miss it - well worth the beautiful car journey from Queenstown.

Unique and unexpected experience
Feb 2019 • Pasangan
Thomas is an engaging host as he guides you through the house. He shows you the incredible furniture he has hand carved often out of one piece of wood and the beautiful floors which he has hand laid from fallen trees in the garden. He then gives you guidance on how to appreciate the garden. He has produced some remarkable statues from cement, including an amazing one of a young girl swinging a younger one, and many of people in various yoga poses. Thomas must be one of the few "outsider artists" in the world - untrained, but committed, passionate and hard working enough to express in art their world views. We hope he gets the recognition he deserves while he is still alive, unlike the South African outsider artist Helen Martins whose fame came after her death
