Found this lovely little gem after having coffee in the square at Nicolosi. We were greet by a very friendly man, who said he could give us a tour. We weren’t sure what to expect and with British trepidation off we went. The whole experience was very informative with models, pictures, short film clips and a chance to ask questions as we went along. We were there for just over an 1hr, the time flew by. It’s free but you can make a donation which we were happy to do. We were charged €9 each yesterday for a guide on Mount Etna, and it was nowhere near as good or informative as the Museum. Give it a go, it’s well worth an hour out of your day. Also has a lovely courtyard where you can eat and get a drink.

Valerio our guide took us through the museum. Offering the tour in English or French, he spoke fluent English and with great patience answered all our questions about Etna and volcanoes in general.
The tour gives excellent background information and the history of Etna. You can touch rock samples, see videos and fantastic photos of eruptions, and gain a real appreciation of the ultimate power of nature and the depths of the Earth. Without a doubt definitely visit this if you are in Nicolosi. The tour is by donation, and there is also a restaurant and bar onsite.

Etna and Museo Vulcanologico visit

What a hidden gem.
Not only is this a really interesting place to visit, with a great deal of information about Etna and its many eruptions. Photos, models and a great deal of TV footage, along with an interesting guide.
The restaurant is brilliant.
Fabulous food, great "Vulcano" artiginale beer, a little oasis.
Sadly we did not pick up a book on Etna, but will visit there first before venturing up the mountain.
Only downside are the directions, but persevere to the centre and there is a good size car park and its only a 25 metre walk.

Worth a visit - and buy the Etna Guidebook!

We stopped here for an hour and received a fantastic guided tour - mainly on general history of eruption and some educational material and interesting lava specimens. The Etna guidebook is a must before your trip up Etna.

Excellent and Informative - Really complements a visit to Mt Etna itself

We spent about 90 minutes here on our way back from Mt Etna itself, and really learned a lot from the experience. The displays outline the geology, eruption history and social impact of Mt Etna on local Sicilian communities - they are well presented, very informative and made even better because we were guided thru by a very helpful articulate local lady. Easy to find if you have a car and a mapping app - and strongly recommended.

This Educational and interesting museum really made the trip to Mount Etna more meaningful. We were guided through the museum by a young woman who spoke very good English and really knew the science. There was archival footage of eruptions at Etna. We were impressed. It is free.

This was a really interesting museum and i recommend you go before the trip to Etna as it will enrich this experience. A well informed and thought out tour with a guy who's clearly doing a PhD in this area. We were enthralled and very engaged but i can imagine the level of information and depth it's not to everyone's taste. It is a free museum but we left a contribution at the end.
