Would recommend above all else-especially if you have young children

What a fantastic place, we arrived at about 11 but should have arrived on opening as we left at closing time and didn't have time to do everything! We entered the Safari first which I would recommend, you can go back in if you wish but the zoo takes a long time, the Safari takes probably about 45 mins, the space is vast for the animals, very safe for both you and the animals, you can get up so close to them, we were amazed! We were lucky to be behind a Safari tour, they fed the animals and we watched as they came out, it was amazing to see the bears on the road in front of our car, just fantastic.
The zoo was just as amazing, lots of animals too see, with lots of space for them, feeding times displayed on entry of the zoo as well as near each animal pen, the lions and hyeena's were worth watching, there are lots of viewing windows, the glass gneiss tunnels are good to be in at feeding times but get very hot! You can also stand around fenced areas and at other glass windows. We took a picnic and ate it before entering the zoo, lots of bees/wasps, don't take anything sweet- they even send to like mayonnaise!!! We saved getting an ice cream until the end of the day and ate it on the way to the car.
The Guinea pigs were worth the visit we thought and the net park in the trees are really good, plenty of shade in the zoo,zip wire above the animals was available if you wished-looked cool!
Visit the shop on arrival as it gets busy at the end of the day.
You can also visit the house but we ran out of time- great value for money,

Great family day seeing beautiful animals!

Beautiful day out seeing animals who looked well cared and had proper spaces cared of to live in. Lots of animals, some of them we never saw before. It is amazing to see so many of them. Lots of shadow in the zoo. Playground in the middle. Picnic tables available. We arrived at the opening and left just before the closure - plan the whole day there!! Started with walking through the zoo and finished off with the car safari - great idea as we were happy to sit down at that point!

Great Zoo - perfect trip with children!

Although cold and wet the zoo was a very nice experience. Explanations are given in French and English and very well presented for children. The areas for the animals are relatively large. Lots of extra features like labyrinth, playgrounds and picknick areas and food places e.g. in a Jurte (food could be better though). In combination with the Safari parc the prize of 29€ for adults and 23€ for kids is justified.
We will definitely come back in summer!

Beautiful 'Thoiry Lumières Sauvages'!!

We came back for the 2nd year of the lantern festival. It's even better than the first! Really magical. We'd done the zoo and safari in the day which are great, and there's a renaissance chateau too. Wonderful zoo with big enclosures for the animals, and the parkland is beautiful. And then in the evening there is an amazing lantern show. A wonderful experience for adults and children in the gardens of the chateau. We wish we could have taken all our grand-children with us. There's a nice bar and freshly cooked pizzas, waffles and crepes so you can make a fun evening out of it. Thoroughly recommended. All in all a fantastic experience. Do not miss.

Not far from Paris, even the hour of trip was grreat, throught nice countryside villages.
The kids really enjoys the safari, to be soo close from wild animals. And the Zoo itself is so big.... for this price. Some zoo should consider to revise their price.
Only one thing, follow a french family or be sure to be fluant in french if you want to avoid to turn around in the labyrinth, as the exit is drive by enigms.

Thoiry Zoo Chinese lantern display

A spectacular experience. The 1.5K walk through the woods with animals and teees lit with waterfall lighting was magical. Wonderful entertainment for family and friends. A must see......

"Thoiry Lumières Sauvages" is AMAZING!

I'd been to this zoo once before and loved it (fantastic drive-through safari park and zoo, and a chateau - takes a full day) and suggested to friends that we go and see the new lantern festival while they were in Paris for a few days. It's just magical! It's like a happy dream. Beautiful lanterns everywhere, and it's huge. They've got a copy of the Beijing Summer Temple - it looks like it's almost as big as the real one. Cool light and sound show on the front of the chateau. In the gardens near the chateau there's a classical Chinese them, and then in the woods it's all animals, from beautiful butterflies to life-size giraffes, cranes, flamingos, lions - everything lit up - and there are lanterns and lights dangling high up in the trees all around. Hard to describe. Very strongly recommended to families with children, or without children. It will appeal to all ages.
And in the zoo they've added guided tours in safari trucks which we'd have loved to have done if we'd got there earlier. And in summer there's a zipline over the lions! Yikes! It's great.

Unbelievably spectacular and amazing. The beautiful walk through the woods amongst the animals and the wonderful temple, Château and son et lumiere on the back of the Château de Thoiry were quite amazing. The hard work making every image in silk and fine steel and the lighting required is a technical masterpiece.

Expensive and not all that great!

We decided to take our toddlers along one day in september.
Entry was quick although the car park is quite confusing for first timers, they really should have someone outside to guide you, or better signs!

-Need to make the main restaurant hours longer! Its unacceptable to viste the whole zoo and not have a decent meal option during opening hours.
-Staff are generally rude, the amount of times i had to move my family out of the way of golf carts was ridiculous, not once did i get a simple 'merci'!
-The lions are obviously the main attraction but again as theres no one to organise and tell people where to go, its ridiculous the amount that try to squeeze into the tiny tunnel!
-It all just feels a little unkept and dirty honestly.

We left the safari for the end of the day before returning home.
-The elephant on it´s own broke my heart the poor thing.
-People clearly stopping their cars although sign at entrance says not to, but then theres not one soul around to control that. They clearly have too many golf carts, put some one on one and get them to do rounds making sure people stick to the rules. Its annoying having to constaly stop and start or overtake because the idiots infront have been at a stop for 5 minutes.

Overall a fun day for the kids, because we made sure to make it fun otherwise its quite plain and boring on its own. Theres a general feeling of unkept and dirtyness. Rude and not enough staff. Lots of improving needed to justify the money they charge.

A must visit zoo with kids...We visited both the parc zoologique and zoo African safari it was an amazing experience.....
