Sicily has all the beautiful things that God has given.
Incredible sea, blue sky, good food, good people and nature everywhere. The Monte Cofano reserve is one of these places that is worth a visit.
A nice long walk can take you through a spectacular landscape. Flowers, mixed scent of sea water and grass, sounds and sun. Silence, breeze and the sea sound .
You can walk until your legs can no longer support you.
Awesome!

Almost all trails are closed due to chance of falling rocks. There is no way to walk around the mountain nor to go up to the summit. Guards at the entrance prevent you from entering.
Depending on where you start this is not immediately obvious but you will find the barriers eventually.
Some walks are still possible but very limited and no way to loop around the mountain.
Apart from that the area is amazing and would have been super nice to spend time here!

If you love mountain walks, you must visit this nature reserve. The paths that cross Mount Cofàno, bringing you from one side to the other, will give you wonderful views.
You can spend hours walking in the peaceful and regenerating silence of nature and you can see the Tonnara Tower, a piece of history.
An experience that I did alone, walking for over 4 hours: unforgettable.

In the west side of Sicily Island, Custonaci Is a very important not only Town for the marble extractions, but for every single detail.

We parked for free at the Grotta Mangiapane which makes for an interesting drive to get to that location; typical narrow gravel road and wondering how to get back. From the parking lot, we followed the path towards the ocean. There are many diverting paths but if you follow the one most trodden, you should be OK. Watch for cattle grazing. Nice hike with varied terrain. Good hiking boots/shoes are recommended as well as sun screen, water and food.

Did a walk around with 6 years old and light rock climbing to the summit without kids. Spectacular constant changing views. Several villages at walking distance.

They put 'Entry prohibited' signs at all entrances because of the 'risk of stones falling' ... as if it were not the case everywhere in the mountains or on coastal cliffs ! Of course, people don't respect those ridiculous signs. The coastal trail is actually in prime condition and it is a great walk.

We also drove to San Vito from Scopello and hiked Mt Cofano reserve. The trail around the periphery was closed due to avalanches but we had a fabulous hike through the middle to what seemed like a small village of Baglio Cafano. Stunning. Spectacular views to the opposite coast and beyond. Lots of flowers, well marked trails. I am amazed by the toilet paper left in the middle of the trail! Why can't people carry in and out? Total about 3-4 hours. Could spend less. We saw only a few people the whole time.

We walked the round trip although it was officially closed due to ‚caduta massi‘, but no one cared... a nice walk, lots of flowers (less compered to Zingsro to be honest), not many people. This walk is second to Zingaro to my opinion as swimming is not possible.

We parked for free at the Grotta Mangiapane and the walk is signposted from there. With the help of the Sicily Car Tours and Walks book, we set off up towards the saddle, hiking anti-clockwise round the mountain. Unfortunately we had an out of date version of the book, and promptly got lost.
However, we followed a clear path down towards the coast, and into the most beautiful gorge (mentioned by some of the earlier reviewers.). It was a steep descent, with great views, and lots of spring flowers and vivid green lizards. A little slice of heaven.
When we hit the coast we turned left along the gravel road and rejoined the walk outlined in the book, as it hugged the coast at the base of the mountain. The trail here is officially closed - I assume because of the danger of falling rock - but, this being Sicily, no one was taking the blindest bit of notice and happily walking around the barrier.
The whole walk, which took about three hours, was simply terrific. Highly recommended. Do take lots of sun cream, water and a picnic. And you need good walking shoes as the ground is often uneven.

Buona serata a tutti.

Hi, I'm sorry but you'll need a rental car. I only saw a free little train that connects Cofano with San Vito beach. (Public transport, in Sicily, is awful)
