This island is not what it used to be, however, it is still a beautiful island with great scenery. Make sure to come when the peach blossoms are blooming.

Beautiful Nature
Jun 2016 • Sendiri
Island is beautiful because of its nature. There are many attractions connected to sea and mountains. Please sea my pictures from the island.

An island with a few good parks, but is it worth the effort or would I come here again? I guess not.
Apr 2016 • Keluarga
To come to this island your need to cross a very long bridge over the sea to Zhousan, then take the ferry (20-35mins) to the island and get yourself booked into one of the mini hotel there. Once there you visit 2 parks and 1 beach, so basically you only need 1 night stay for this visit. Hotel is cheap (mini), food is average to low quality since there's no fancy restaurant here. We visited it in low season so the island seemed to be deserted, with only us and maybe few more family/couples. Being so used to all the crowds every where in China it is actually a plus for us. But beware if weather is bad the ferry may not sail and you may get stuck on the island for extra days with virtually nothing else to do.
One visit is enough and I would not come here again.

Beautiful setting at Taohua zai.

We went to Taohua zai. It was so beautiful man made setting. It was
well known from a famous Taiwan novel. Almost everyone knows it. Finally see it in my eyes. Next day morning, went hike to Anqi mountains, hiked for 5 good hours. It was rainy on and off and on the top mountain, there are foggy and cold. Seafood was a must try. Very fresh.

Fascinating to see the devout pilgrims as this is an important island for Buddhism but I was put off by the non stop fees for every place you wanted to see, even after paying to get on the island.
You see Monks asking for money which you would never see in Laos or Thailand for example. The food is expensive unless you go to the vegetarian restaurant in one of the temples which provides filling, if simple, fare.
Don't stay on the island but stay in Zhoushan, cheaper and more to do in the evening. Remember to try the local Zhoushan wine made out of berries...goes down like a coke but packs a huge punch. Cheap 2-3 RMB for a glassful.
All in all well worth the effort but be prepared for the commercialism.

Wild island with beautiful sights all over. Taxi will most likely carry you to the hostels facing the main beach, southward. From there, you can either access the beach or hike to the Anqi peak. Unless you are not easy to get tired it's a really worthwhile (45 Y) experience: there are temples, a pagoda, a bamboo house, a lake and a waterfall (not much water though), it's also possible to rock-climb. As it always happens in China, make sure you are already on your way back by 5 pm, as the path is closed after that time. Seafood is great and is up to the high price.

Downside: the price to access the (very small) beach is a rip-off: more than 50 Y. If you go there at night you don't need to pay, but I let you imagine it's not exactly the same.
If you look for entertainment, shopping or service, don't sweat it. This island simply doesn't provide anything of that kind. After 6/7 pm all lights turn off, people go to sleep, and you can just go back to your room (around 120 Y per night on weekday). Although the name of the island is "Peach Blossom island", do not expect to find those trees.
Unless you live in Zhoushan or Ningbo, two days in this island are somewhat expensive, but once in a life is ok.

Nice day trip

You can stay on the island, however we decided to stay on a bigger island and ferry-hop to Taohua. Tip: last ferry leaves at 17:00.

We had a lovely day on the island. We didn't go to the scenic spot because it takes at least an hour to hike to the top after you paid the entrance fee.
However, we did spend some time on the beach and the only beach restaurant. The restaurant is on a large deck looking over the surf. The cuisine is Chinese and the owners don't speak English but the food is good. However, don't order the tea unless you want to pay 100 Yuan for a small pot of bad tea. Also, ask for the prices of the food before you order it - it's not a la carte restaurant but rather the point at what you want to be cooked style.

Please go to the monastery that's on the way from the beach to the scenic spot. It's beautiful, large and colourful and also much older than the monastery at Putuoshan. The monks there are very social and friendly.

All in all, I'd say Taohua island is pleasant stop. I wouldn't go all the way to Zhoushan just for the island again, but it's a definite stop if it's your first time to Zhoushan.
