The trip is composed of great views and adventure. After walking down and inland for about an hour, we arrived to a beautiful cascade and a pond.
Thermal water and a section where we could swim, we were delighted with the place. The walk is a bit challenging in a zigzag man-made stairs, combined with natural paths. It is worth walking to enjoy the final destination.
The way up is tedious and dufficult for people with physical limitations. Visitors should plan accordingly.
It is recommended to have "water shoes" so you won't suffer stepping on the little stones when crossing the river.
Insect repellent is necessary for a smooth visit.

Very beautiful, good to swim in and the hot springs near the cascadas are amazing after being in the cool water for a while.

Not a bad trek.
They have baths built for taking advantage of the hot water coming out of the mountains.
The river needs to be crossed on a bamboo boat the about another 30 minutes to the falls,
A relatively small waterfall - it's nice, but nothing impressive.

If you are looking for nice sighseeings of nature, is a good place. Have spots to rest before continuing until the cascade. You can swim, and you must walk for a while. Go with the less things possible cause theres a way where you must swim to pass. Take a protector for water for you phone, if isnt waterproof. Jumping from cascade is allowed. And if it was rainning day before could be lil dangerous. Lots of fun!

I spent 2 months in Tarapoto and tried to visit somewhere new every weekend - this was by far my favourite! As we're quite active people we found the walk through the jungle enjoyable, however some other members of our tour group struggled slightly (particularly with all the ladders).
After crossing the river we continued to the waterfall where we swam at the bottom before climbing the ladder to swim in the cave-like pool at the top. If you are a strong swimmer, you can also try jumping from the top of the waterfall!

Being so close to nature has a wonderful feeling. It is not a hard trek to the waterfalls but make sure you have good footwear and light clothing. Possibility of rain, so a light rain jacket is advised.

I'm currently here in Tarapoto, today we visited this cascade and well I didn't get to reach the second stop which was the cascade itself. I stayed at the first stop which was where we had to cross a little river on a flat boat made of logs pulled by a woman. There I went into the medical thermal baths and sun tanned on top of the rocks. The walk down to it wasn't much of a problem but the walk back up was a bit since I had been swimming and was tired. The whole walk through the jungle was a unique experience.

This place is amazing in many ways. First to arrive there is amazing watch the view of the selva alta from the car. Second you have to walk in the middle of Amazonian forest and it is amazing to watch all that giant plants. Third the falls is very very beautiful and then, when you thing it's over you can relax in the natural hot tub.
If you are in Tarapoto I recomend to go there for a day and relax in the middle of the Amazonian forest, you won't regret it!

I highly recommend this 3 hour trekking trip if you love nature and adventure. The preserved area is located on the km34 of the Belaunde Highway Tarapoto-Yurimaguas. Maybe 20-30 minutes from Tarapoto. This area was opened 2 years ago to the public. You hike between mountains, climb a ladder and cross a stream on a log raft. You will reach the hot springs. Then, if this is not enough for you, you can keep hiking toward the cascade for 30 more minutes. You will find a nice paradise to swim and keep hiking if you want to get even closer to the cascade. On the way, you will find a variety of plants, ants, mushrooms, orchids, green and black frogs. I heard that also you may see the blue and black or the red and green frogs. Also, if you arrive early you may see some wild animals.
Fee: 5 soles. Members of the community of San Jose are the guides and preserve the area. You may want to tip them for their great service. They are opened to answer all your questions.
I met Mr. Enrique Tafur who is the "fiscal". He checks everything works well in the area.
Bring swimming suit, extra clothing just in case you fall in the water.
Wear tennis hiking shoes.
Be ready for the adventure!

Nice hike (not too strenuous) with adventure and up-close encounter with the waterfall. You have to ascend/descend several steep ladders and cross a river, which is not for the faint-hearted. We went in the rainy season and the river swells when it rains upstream, so we crossed it without trouble but had to wait an hour on the return for it to calm down enough to cross in the little log raft. The water at the waterfall is cool but not super cold and is shallow at the entrance so you can wade in and enjoy the water even if you are not a swimmer.

A note of caution: the ladders can be dangerous, especially when wet. A member of our tour group slipped and fell off the one that leads to the upper tier of the waterfall because he was descending the wrong way (back to the ladder instead of facing the ladder) even after the guides warned us not to do that. There is no cell signal there and we could not send for help until the swollen river calmed down enough to cross. So, enjoy the tour be but be safe!
