This was our favorite waterfall in Tarapoto. It is a moderate one hour walk that our six year old struggled a little bit to finish but thoroughly enjoyed. The hike back was much easier. Bring a water bottle, bathing suits and a towel. Our guide was absolutely fantastic. We hired him at the entrance of the waterfalls for less than $8 and it was totally worth it as he pointed out many insects and plants we would’ve otherwise missed. We went on a Tuesday around 9:30am and we were the only ones there. It was magical!

A moderate and nice one hour trekking. Don't forget to take your mosquito cream and a comfortable pair of shoes.

We were picked up from our hotel in Tarapoto by Vertical Journey, the trip to the waterfall entrance lasted an hour. From there it was a ~45 min hike uphill to the waterfall, where we climbed to the top (about 40m high, 130 ft) and descended down the waterfall face with rappeling gear twice. It was a blast! Then we swam in the lagoon that formed at the bottom of the waterfall. Fortunately there was a restaurant at the entrance were we had lunch and then went back to the city. If you'd like to try something adventurous that is NOT anywhere as scary as, say, bunjee jumping, try this. The waterfall edge is sloped in a curve, so it's really easy to transition from a vertical to horizontal stance. Plus the pics you can take while going down are insanely good. Definitely insta/fb winners.

This was a most wonderful and pleasant outing as we were able to get a unique perspective of the beauty and denseness of the forest as we entered deeper to were the waterfalls resided.

I went last summer with my hubby. It was not too busy in the morning but after 10am everybody started to come so fortunately my tour guide told us to go early to enjoy the place ,
There are some places to buy and eat local stuff.

I absolutely fell in love with Tarapoto's jungle; just beautiful. The walk to the waterfall was for around 1 hour and sometimes it was a little steeper/ a little slippery but all in all it was nothing crazy. I went with some local friends and the youngest was 11 but didn't have any problems..but for younger children it might be a little more difficult.

The waterfall itself was amazing, fresh and cold water! Definitely bring a towel so you can go for a swim! And always be prepared for some spontaneous rain haha that's the jungle life :)

Even though the trekking to the waterfall can get a bit hard especially for small children due to the high level of humidity, the heat and the road which can get a bit challenging on some instances, I would highly recommend it if you are planning to spend some days in Tarapoto. The guides are from a native community and know the road by heart and they will walk at the speed of the slowest ones of the group so if you aren't so physically fit you don't need to worry. Once you reach the waterfall, you'll realize that all the effort was worth it. The small lagoon at the bottom of the waterfall isn't deep so children from 8 years and older can swim there without any problems. The beauty of the place is beyond my possibility to describe it.

The main reason to visit Tarapoto is as a base to get out to some natural areas of Amazonas. We booked a tour here with an agency in the main square for 90 soles each which would supposedly last from 9am to 4pm. The drive was only about 40 minutes then the walk to the waterfall took another 40 minutes. It's a beautiful spot with hardly any other people there. Swimming was a delight. After a very long lunch stop on the way back we were back in Tatapoto by 3pm. With hindsight I'd be tempted to ask a taxi driver to take you there and shorten the time of the outing by a few hours.

My parents, boyfriend, and I came to this waterfall as a day tour with the PumaRinRi hotel. The hike was a little much for my inexperienced 58-yr-old mother, but she made it through just fine! Otherwise, the hike is enjoyable and not too challenging, and so worth it when you arrive at the waterfall and lagoon and you have it all to yourself! We were able to swim leisurely and take all the photos we wanted! Way better than other places I'd been, like Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica, that look private and exotic but really are crawling with tourists. Def check this out if you're in the area!

I wanted to see Pucayaquillo Waterfall. Even swimming there looked like a dream to me. I even found the opportunity to make Rappel in Pucayaquillo Waterfall. It was hilarious. Feeling waterfall in my face while trying to go down, that adrenalin.. I'll never forget.
