I visited the orchidea as a tour. They explain really good how the chocolate is made but now they don’t allow visitors in the production area anymore and the “ruta del cacao” was also close.
Chocolate expensive 28 euro per kg (9,50 soles for 90gr) for a industrial chocolate is a little too much to be in Peru where they produce it.

A muchos nos gusta el chocolate, que excelente oportunidad de saber de donde sale, como se procesa, y probar chocolate del mejor del mundo en la zona donde se originó la planta
Many of us love chocolate, what an excellent opportunity to know where it comes from, how it is processed and try different flavors of one of the best chocolates worldwide on the area where cacao plant originated (later it got to Mayas and Aztecs and all over the world but botanically its origin is the northern peruvian rainforest)

Well we were shown cacao in all places we visited during our stay in Tarapoto. No this was the chance to know a bit more about this fruit and the chocolate elaboration process.
The factory produces organic chocolate from cacao sourced from local communities which is great as it generates a way of earning a living for far away communities.
Also the chocolate is fantastic.

When in Tarapoto this is a must place to come . Tour is kind of point less if you have a idea of how chocolate is made. The product is superb. We got 3 bars and where rwally amaized with the quality that went back and got 20 more to bring hime with us. Really good stuff you cant get often. Good price too.great views at the back of the factory. Ask the staff for a peak.

We were excited for this experience but it was a big letdown. The "tour" lasted a grand total of maybe 8 minutes and mostly involved us standing at a window and staring and women banging on trays of melted chocolate to get all the air bubbles out before putting it in a fridge to set. The explanation was good but that doesn't make it a tour. Then, in the store, there were no samples to try and they didn't have all flavor options in all bar sizes. They were especially lacking in options for the smallest bars and since we weren't able to sample any of them and didn't want to buy big bars without knowing how they tasted, ended up not buying any at all.
I guess if you have zero idea how chocolate is made and love it enough to buy without sampling it first, maybe this will appeal to you.

Pretty place and nice people, but we were disappointed that tours are only in the morning, Monday-Friday.

We were waiting in the shop while waiting for enough people for a short tour into the factory. As per our guide they have several factories but the one that we visited was their first factory. You may buy the delicious Orquidea Chocolate bar for PEN 4.5 (small bar) and PEN 10 (the big bar). Bar of hot chocolate for PEN 3.5, Small box of Chocoteja for PEN 12.5. When we visited, the factory opened at 9AM, the guide will show you outside of the building, most of them were only pictures but the view of Rio Cumbaza was beautiful, then to go inside the factory building they will lent you white coat, disposable mask and shoes protector. It was quite hot inside, the machine made loud noise. But it was a very good experience for us to know how to make chocolate bar from the Cacao fruit. You may buy the Orquidea chocolate in the La Inmaculada Supermarket for 10 cents for than in the factory, and even in Lima but for more expensive price. The chocolate were delicious, we tried the chocolate bar with Quinoa, with Kiwicha and with coconut. There was a clean toilet inside the shop in case you need it.

Hola Yalitza:
Saludos,
Roberto
