You can't see this from the road, but a walk across to the other side from the road/ parking and along the path and you can get to this dam. A lovely little walk and beautiful to see!

The design of the overall complex of Victorian reservoirs in the Elan Valley was to provide Birmingham with a continuous source of fresh water. This was to be done purely through gravity, with no pumping involved.
This required two dams to be built that acted to raise the water levels sufficiently that this could happen.
Dolymynach was to be one of these - but was never completed, although the other dams still worked without it.
