We were told about this attraction by a gentleman working in the Westport House Camping and Caravan Park. The roadway up to the summit is narrow in places but we made it up in a motorhome so it's not too challenging. You have to be careful on the descent. The climb is well worth it.

Absolutely beautiful views of Achill. There is a road directly to the top allowing for easy access. This is a bit of a hidden gem and we had the whole place to ourselves

Followed a route from "Ireland's Best Walks" and this trail has a well-deserved place in that book. It's not the way marked route from Dooega but starts at the beach, up the road towards the vehicular route up to Minaun heights and, after you pass the last house on the left (derelict), strike straight up the mountain to the masts. Its steep and wet but an easier climb that it looked from the approach along the road. From the parking area at the top go southwards to Minaun summit (466m) and after the descent on the other side, walk along the cliffs with several intervening summits and fantastic views to Clare Island before the rather wet return to Dooega just above the shore and following the way-marked way back to the car park and the welcome mobile shop just across from the beach. A walk of 8.8 miles and 1,775 feet of ascent and descent. I took me 5.5 hours. A bit hairy in places near the cliffs as despite being a calm and sunny day at sea level, it was blowing a hoolie at 1,000 feet up. It was a spectacular walk. I probably wouldn't do the full on climb up the hillside again - if you had two cars and could leave one at Dooega and drive up to Minaun Heights, absolutely ideal.

Absolute stunning views from the top of Achill. Follow the radio mast to get there! Panoramic views of the entire island and beyond. Gem of a place.

This is a little bit of a hidden gem. You can drive up to the top and if it’s a clear day the views are unrivalled. There’s plenty of place for car parking. The road up is grand just a bit steep and the sheep aren’t the best for getting out of the way so care is needed!

Took a quick drive up here on the only day it wasn't covered in cloud on our week long stay. It's a steep drive up, with a sheer drop into the Atlantic 1500ft below you. You want your wits about you going up! Spectacular view.

Due to the towers, Minaun is a height you have the rare comfort of driving to. We were so blown away by the 360 views we returned for sunset.
You can walk from the carpark up to the peak, a steady climb but a little boggy underfoot so recommend appropriate footwear, not like me the fool on sandals who had to come down barefoot!

Took the drive up to Minaun yesterday with my family and was blown away by the views, if you are in Achill this visit is something not to be missed. There is a place to park the car just beside the masts and you can either take in the view from there or you can walk up to the peak where the view is spectacular. Well worth the effort.

If you like panoramic views, you won't do much better than this. Minaun provides a mildly challenging walk to the top which is well rewarded by the view which is breath taking. Best on a clear day as it can become shrouded in mist.
