Do not miss the experience of climbing Vulcano - it's a proper volcano, smells of sulphur, steams constantly and you can see right down into a perfect crater. It's just what a volcano should be like!
The walk up is not too onerous, but be warned - the volcano is only open to visitors at set times, so do your research or you may be disappointed. We saw many people turned away.
I recommend a morning hike - that way the walk up is on the shady side of the volcano and you avoid the heat. Once you're on the top, you feel the full heat of the sun!

I was really looking forward to this trip but am really disappointed. The stench of the sulfur (bad eggs) is everywhere, and one cannot escape it. The mud baths are closed, but honestly in this heat with the stench everywhere in the area I would not like to get into the mud. As soon as I could I left the island.

We can to Vulcano excited to try the natural mud bath which is unfortunately CLOSED!! So disappointed. Also the smell of the sulfur at the beach and near the port is almost unbearable.

We went for a 10 day Sicily trip with my husband and Vulcano was a randomly selected island among the Eolie Islands.
Vulcano is something special. It has a calm energy, and the nature is so real there. The forest, the vulcano, the hills, the black sand, the rocks standing in the sea, the white mud and that really strong thermal smell around it.
Went for a little trip there with a Mini Moka. It was really funny.
I loved it so much, we will definitely go back some day.

we got a boat trip to Lipari and then Vulcano. I was looking forward to Vulcano to go swimming in the hot water and the mud bath. The latter unfortunately was closed. However, the hot springs are free so it was nice to go into the water. You have to try and forget about the disgusting smell from the Vulcano, although it is everywhere, but it certainly is an experience.
We also went to see the black beach and hired a car to go to the top of a mountain with brilliant views over to Lipari, Stromboli and Gina's breasts :D (Malfa). Worthwhile the experience.

When in Sicily, not visiting the Aeolian islands might be a massive Fomo.
The Stromboli which almost always active, with its bright red lava and eruptions, absolutely amazing at night, and this island's Volcano are amazing.
We wee not lucky as when we sailed to the Stromboli its top was clouded (check thoroughly the weather) so no amazing red lava by night, but the other Volcano in these islands is this one and it is much more accessible than the Etna.
You just take the Liberty lines hydrofoil and your walking shoes!
No need for to buy tickets for the expensive cable car, no need to rent the more expensive jeep guided tours, and yes you need to climb for 30 minutes or so, according to your level of fitness, but then the reward is up there, and for free.
Again we were not that lucky as suddenly the sky poured showers while we were climbing to the top, but we dried rather quickly and the view was worth any soaked garment.
And don't forget the feshly pressed orange juice at the bottom.

The island of Vulcano, the closest to Sicily, is 22 square kilometres, giving its name to all the geological formations that spew lava and other things from the earth's interior. And the main thing here, of course, is its big crater, Gran Crater (391 m), the father of all volcanoes, whose yellow clouds of sulphur emit temperatures between 350 and 500 degrees Celsius.
Most tourists arrive in the north of the island, in the cities of Porto di Levante and Porto di Pontente, which have the largest beach on the island.

When you go down to the island of Vulcano it seems to enter into a fairy tale all day you can punctuate scents unknown to us,
Beautiful black sands underfoot create positive vibrations.

Arriving at the port by hydrofoil, a few steps away are the bars of the pedestrian area. Watch out in the evening since there is no public lighting. Remarkable the escarpment on the Volcano, a Recommendation is not to be taken lightly, I've seen people climb it with beach slippers well 'it's not really the case. Famous black sands that are just a few steps from the harbor. The part that I liked the most is Mulberry, where there is a beautiful view with a marina, a nice restaurant, a short walk to the church and a lighthouse, abandoned aimé; beautiful view from Capo Grillo, as is the fascinating view from the volcano not only for what you can admire from above but also around as you climb. To admire the part of Mulberry, and Capo Grillo it is advisable to rent a vehicle, pay attention to the road surface and the hairpin bends but you will enjoy wonderful views.
As for the food I ate well everywhere we stayed, the bill, however, I found it a bit expensive everywhere I dare say without fear of denial even more than the center of Rome.
