West Wycombe house is a National Trust property with an interesting house with a few rooms you can visit and scenic gardens and a lake offering pleasant walks.

To say this lovely park has gone downhill is an understatement. Have not visited since 2019..pre covid..and how things have changed. The park and house itself are still exquisite and beautiful but the so called welcoming staff for the National Trust need some serious training. We entered and came face to face with a gentleman called Roger who was busily eating away whilst serving us…..it seems we disturbed his lunch as his abrupt and rude manner left a lot to be desired. We explained that we had left our NT membership cards at home and could he possibly look us up only to be told ‘he couldn’t be bothered, so carry on’. We proceeded to go up to the house with no proof we were members or had paid to come in but the lovely lady on the door of the house kindly let us in after we had explained the situation. All the staff and volunteers at the house were very knowledgeable and helpful.
After a nice relaxing walk, we went to leave. As we passed the NT hut, there was ‘our friend d’ Roger still munching away without so much of a goodbye or thanks.
National Trust..you really need to sort out your staff on the entrance gate as there is certainly no friendly welcome as there always used to be. Also maybe give your gazebo a good clean…..perhaps Roger could do that instead of eating!!!

We arrived shortly after 2pm and were lucky to get places on the 2.45 tour of the house. Our guide was personable extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. She made a special point of engaging with the youngest member of our group and soon won her over.
It was a privilege to see inside this beautiful house and learn something of its colourful history, and that everything isn’t as it seems.
I’m disappointed by some of the previous embittered comments. People can check opening times, toilets are available and shown on the map provided on arrival, and the grounds appear to be beautifully maintained.
I am grateful that this unique and fascinating piece of our history is being preserved and I relished the opportunity to experience it on a glorious summer day, made all the more enjoyable by our excellent guide.

The house tour here was brilliant! A really spectacularly furnished house with a colourful history. Unfortunately, the facility of the park is not the best, there are no toilets, refreshments, gift shops, nothing at all. Beautiful park, but their opening hours are very short, you don't really have enough time to see everything.

Easy to park in the free carparks walk across the Cow fields takes 40 mins, if your NT members then you can walk around the Manor and it has a decent NT Cafe & toilets.

We arrived a little early and were asked to park up and wait. We had travelled in two cars with family so got out of the car to chat while we waited for the grounds to open. One of the volunteers came over and rather aggressively told us we needed to wait in our cars as the grounds weren't open yet. My elderly relative asked the volunteer if we had parked in the nearest park as we had a disabled passenger and where was the house. The volunteer then, in my opinion rather rudely replied that she would only answer that question when the grounds officially opened. This left us feeling dreadful and it was at this point we decided not to stay.

The pretty grounds of West Wycombe park are not extensive. However, they are pleasant and attractive and include plenty of interesting features such as bridges, ponds and follies. The house, which was closed at the time of my visit, is impressive from a distance if a little shabby and dirty from closer quarters.
We enjoyed an hour and a half or so, wandering around.

West Wycombe Park, house, was built during the 18th century, (1740-1780), Under the instruction of its owner, Sir Francis Dashwood, 2nd Baronet. It was built in the neo-classical style, very italianate, unusual for English architecture. Very elaborate furniture & decoration adorn its interior, although, when visiting, only the ground floor can be explored, as the upper floors are still occupied by the Dashwood family. The house lies in 45 acres of grounds, with small temples dotted around, making it a very beautiful place to visit. The property was given to the National Trust in the 1940s by the 10th baronet, its open during the summer months, although the grounds can be explored most of the year. The property is accessed via the High st running through West Wycombe village, which is also Nat Trust, in the village, you'll a couple of lovely old pubs & an excellent tea room, the grounds of W W park, does not have a tea room. The house has been used as a backdrop in many tv dramas, including Downton abbey & Cranford. I thoroughly recommend a visit to this beautiful house & its grounds.

A great place to go, have a bite to eat, enjoy the formal and vegetable gardens, look at the house, and see the little museum. Well worth going if you are nearby. Took my 90 year old Mum - she enjoyed it too. Its National Trust, so take your membership card.
