The Place To See Wildlife
Mei 2021 • Pasangan
We went two days in a row and saw an amazing amount of wildlife in this area.

Bison, antelope, coyotes, wolves, birds and more. The ecosystem is very much in evidence in this area.

Lamar Valley is where the animals are
Jul 2021
If you're looking for animals in Yellowstone, then Lamar Valley is where you want to go. You are bound to find lots of animals to watch and photograph. We saw hundreds of bison, some one their own, but also in herds. We also saw deer, prairie dogs, marmots, eagles, cranes, and a wolf. If you're on the look out for a bear, wolf or something else unusual, the key is to look for a crowd of cars, pull up and ask what they are seeing, if it's what you are looking for then stop. Also looking for the Safari vans are helpful since they are purposely seeking out animals and unique experiences for their guests - stop where they stop. Because Lamar Valley is off the figure 8 loop of Yellowstone, you'll also find less traffic.

I was amazed at how many bison there were!! All over the place! We sat & watched for about a hour. Our kids had never seen a herd of bison, so they were impressed!!

The Bison are in Charge
Agt 2020
I was captivated from the moment we came upon the herds and herds of buffalo. We were amused when the FedEx driver had to wait for a group of bison to cross the road and the bulls knew just the right sounds to get the calves moving. It was fascinating to watch the interaction among the herd. This part of the park is completely different from others and the vast immensity of the grasslands is stunning. We also saw pronghorn sheep as we drove to the east entrance for lunch. There were many trails along the way that we enjoyed exploring including Slough Creek which is known for fly fishing and Hellroaring Creek Trail that takes you to a suspension bridge over the Yellowstone River. (We walked about a mile past the suspension bridge and did not see or find anything of great significance.) This is a hike that takes you down to the bridge and the hike back to the parking lot is uphill so be sure to bring enough water.

Bison herds everywhere if you get there early
Jun 2021
we had a very early start (5:30 am) from our hotel in Gardiner to reach Lamar Valley before it got busy. Bison herds were along the road grazing. So many calves were playing with each other. We also saw a lone pronghorn deer and a coyote jumping around nearby. On the way back (around 12 pm) there was a line of cars but the herds of bison were farther away from the road.

A Must do in Yellowstone
Jul 2021 • Pasangan
If you want to see wildlife in Yellowstone, Lamar Valley is the place to go. We originally were not going to make the drive from West Yellowstone to Lamar Valley, but changed our minds after talking to some other folks and we are glad we did - it was the highlight of our trip to the park. Don’t forget your binoculars.

Bison Bison Bison
Apr 2021
We stayed just outside of the West Entrance and the total drive to Lamar Valley was around 2 hours traveling at a leisurely pace. We visited during late April during a light snowfall and encountered many large Bison herds along the way. Bison seem to own this valley. Next time we come to Yellowstone, we will arrange to spend part of our stay near the Lamar Valley to enjoy the wildlife at dawn and dusk. Go early in the morning to see the best wildlife and avoid the crowds. We arrived between 8:30 and 9am and saw mostly bison. It was still an awesome experience since we had no traffic from the West Entrance to Lamar Valley and also saw some Big Horn sheep close up.

Wonderful area in Yellowstone
Jun 2021
We visited Yellowstone National Park recently and spent lots of time seeing the amazing wildlife in Lamar Valley. We saw a black bear, a mountain goat & her baby, wolves, lots of bison & red dogs (baby bison), a Sandhill crane couple with their two fuzzy babies. It was awesome!

Our Lamar Valley was blanketed in Buffalo!
Jun 2021
We spent 4 days in the park and, honestly, the second day was THE BEST megafauna day! We saw Lamar Valley blanketed in buffalo, 5 adult bear, and 2 bear cubs. We at least drove all of the open major roads and walked almost all of the wooden paths. I think the best times were between 7 pm and 9 pm when most folks had gone home for the day. It was nice to have most of a national park to ourselves! NOTE: This is an exaggeration, but compared to blocks of backed up cars at the West Yellowstone entrance, occasionally passing someone else is almost alone. Some of the small areas we really did have to ourselves.

As for the unimproved toilets, most of them were quite nice. I looked for the ones with the newest “chimney” stack.

There was almost no cell signal for AT&T in the park.
