We had a great day exploring Valley Forge. We stopped by the Visitors Center first and took in all the exhibits. The exhibits were engaging and modern. They really gave a lot of good information and context for the park. Next we took a short hike up to the soldiers huts and enjoyed the beautiful area. Finally, we took the trolley tour. It was definitely the highlight of our day and added so much to the experience. Our guide was engaging and knowledgable and it was much easier to ride in the trolley than try to navigate in our car while doing the self guided tour. During the tour we also stopped at Washington's Headquarters. It was really awesome to be able to stand in Washington's quarters and hold the same bannister that he and the generals held during their time here at Valley Forge. We really enjoyed our day and we would go back to do some more hiking in different areas of the park.

Excellent museum with beautifully presented displays. The half-hour video is also lovely and well-done. Staff was eager to answer questions. And the encampment tour was very interesting and worth taking the 30-60 min. to explore. We did purchase the audio tour CD for $10 which greatly enhanced our understanding and appreciation of sites along the encampment tour. However, there is a free version (lower production values) available by a series of cell phone calls. Check the website before you leave home. Every American citizen should visit Valley Forge at least once in his/her lifetime.

A very large National Park with good information about how the Continental Army was formed and trained, a good educational video which even my 5 year old son thought was interesting. Really long walking trails if you are interested in getting some exercise (but few trees so it could be really hot), and also Washington's temporary home while he was in charge of the troops long ago. It also has an old train station with some history inside, but that was closed the day we visited.
Note: Washington's headquarters was closed due to flooding which damaged the electrical circuits in 2021.

Took a long weekend trip with my 2 boys, out goal was 3 National Park areas in 2 days. We started on Saturday ay Valley Forge. We love to do parks, and especially battlefield/ military type.
We started at the visitor center, the ranger there was awesome, Took a lot of time to talk to the boys and gave them their Junior Ranger books. Made them feel important, and they earned their badges.
We did the car tour and took us about 90 minutes, stopping at most of the spots. The boys lovs the cannons, the cabins and the memorials.
Its a large, well put together park. Well worth a visit

With my day off from work, my husband and I visited two national historical parks in Pennsylvania on a late fall day. This historical park is free and features a lot of trails that Pennsylvanians enjoy walking, running and biking. This park is about the battle fought at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War. It is about a 10 mile loop. You follow signs that say "Encampment Tour." Parts of it are on a very busy road that was difficult to turn left onto. The most interesting feature of this national historical park was the house that George Washington stayed in for 6 months. It is closed due to flood damage from Hurricane Ida in September. The visitor center is large and features a lot of gifts.

I visited the Valley Forge National Historical Park in December 2021. My first stop was the Visitors Center. The staff at the information desk were very helpful. There was also an exhibit and a nice Gift and Book Shop. I decided to do the self-guided driving tour which has nine stops. Highlights included the winter huts (Muhlenberg huts), the Memorial Arch, George Washington's Headquarters, the Von Steuben Statue and the Washington Memorial Chapel. George Washington's Headquarters was closed due to flood damage caused by Hurricane Ida. It was still interesting to see the building from the outside and take a photo. You have to walk about ten minutes from the parking lot and it was windy that day which makes one wonder what it was like in the dead of winter in 1777. The Von Steuben Statue is important because General Von Steuben helped train the soldiers in Washington's army. The Washington Memorial Chapel is worth a quick stop. I missed two stops because I missed the turn exiting from the area of Washington's Headquarters. These are a key redoubt and the artillery. But since I have seen plenty of battlefield redoubts and artillery and I was pressed for time I did not feel a need to retrace my steps. All in all, visiting the Valley Forge National Historical Park was an excellent experience.

The national park service provides an amazing experience! What an interesting site: the only commemoration of an encampment (not a battlefield). The story and history were fascinating. Loved the rein-actor who told the story (extremely well) and fired a musket for us. We enjoyed the beautiful grounds and well kept historic buildings.

Buy the ~$7 audio tour at the visitors center and do the self-driving audio tour. The tour is easily accessed via your cell phone camera redirecting a QRL code to the audio. There are 9 stops on the tour with adequate parking. Each stop provides more narrative about the area and you can stop and restart the audio ad you take your time hiking around the park. Very well organized, easy to follow and sync with drive progress. Loved the period music that accompanies the narration.

Valley Forge National Historical Park is a place where one may spend as a couple hours or an entire day enjoying the twenty-six miles of trails and see many historical buildings. We were on our way home from central PA and decided to take a detour to see the park. Admission to the park itself is free. The visitor's center is a very nice building with a gift shop, restrooms, and rangers available to take about what the park has to offer. We had limited time; however, we picked up a map and did the self guided encampment tour which covers most of the main attractions in the park. To stay on the correct route be watchful of the small green and yellowish brown "Encampment Tour" route signs. There are other roads that cross through the park and make it confusing at times. Also, be mindful of bikers, and people walking who use the roads at times instead of the obvious sidewalks for pedestrians. There are parking areas near the major attractions to park and enjoy the areas. It is a worthwhile stop for those who like history or are in the area. There are bicycles for rent, and various programs and tours at times.

Much more interesting and things to see than I thought. I was picturing one or two buildings max and a park. Also had monuments, lots of trails, beautiful amazing church, restored cabins and tons of information via audio from your cell phone. If any interest in the American revolution, this is a must see. To appreciate it more, I recommend reading the fact/fiction book called The glorious Cause. Tells the story of the war based in fact but made as a fictitious book.

I see most travelers allowed 2-3 hours--I know we were there longer. The movie, if you get in at the right time, is about 20 minutes and the trolley, which I highly recommend, is 90 minutes, so there's 2 hours right there. After the trolley, my husband and I drove the grounds and took pictures of places we especially liked, such as the arch and Washington's Chapel, which was gorgeous. Maybe 3 hours is right, but we were pushing 4. It's NOT an all day thing.

Yes cause the last tour starts at 3pm and it’s a 45-minute tour. I recommend to book your tour online as it gets filled quickly.

Which is better to visit---Valley Forge or Washington's Crossing? Is it possible to both in one day.

If you are going to walk to most of the exhibits at valley forge, you need to schedule about 5 hours. That way you can listen to the lectures at the visitors center, Washington's headquarters, and the huts. Then there is the driving tour, and the Movie at the theater. It will be a full day doing both.

How long does the driving tour take? Where is the chapel everyone keeps talking about? Is it on the premises? We love historical sites. We won't arrive until about 2pm. I noticed they close at 5. How much will we be able to do? We really want to do the driving tour and take in sights.

We walked around the park figuring that the men camped out there for the winter did the same. I think it gave us a better appreciation for the time they spent there. Three hours would give you plenty of time to drive part of it and walk part of it...

If you're driving, you can go as fast as you like and someone can narrate from the map. But easier, faster and more informative to park and take the tour for 1.5(?) hrs and have someone else drive and talk.

Can I do a self-guided tour by car earlier or later than the hours of 9:00 - 5:00?

Definitely. The park is open during daylight hours everyday. I would recommend stopping by the visitors center to get a map and then starting a car tour. There are a few parking lots throughout the park where you can stop and walk to nearby sites if you want.
