Great hike

The hike to the falls is easy (very slight uphill) and well marked. Fantastic river and mountain views on the way, and the falls are beautiful.

Worth the hike
Sep 2020
It was rather hot but worth the hike to see the 1200 feet tall falls. It was challenging due to the heat and elevation. I brought a big bottle of water and drank it up.

Awe-inducing hike, like something from LOTR!

We visited in June 2020 and I highly recommend you add this hike into your Sequoia/King’s Canyon National Park itinerary! It’s a longer hike, but so worth it! The falls are a dramatic 1200 foot cascade over dark gray boulders...it looks like something out of Lord of the Rings! So pack a little lunch and make an afternoon of it! It’s a breathtaking hike that follows along the Middle Fork of the Kaweah River. Along the way you pass by lush, peaceful meadows, carpets of tiny, vivid pink flowers, and even some alien-looking flowers and fauna such as the Snowflower Plant that’ll have you debating whether it’s a flower or a mushroom! You’ll also pass by huge fallen trees and hop on rocks to cross shallow little bits of creeks...all while gazing up at Watchtower peak looming 1600 feet above! Drive past the Lodgepole visitor center into Lodgepole campgrounds and park in the campground’s huge, paved parking lot. The entrance to the hike isn’t terribly obvious though...we were kinda wondering if we were in the right place. You walk through the campground gate and can see a bridge crossing the river. The entrance to the trail is just across the bridge to the right and has ample signage. The hike itself is 1.7 miles from the entrance to the falls (so 3.4 miles total) and I’d call it a moderate hike. It took us just over 2 hours to complete it round trip. And that includes stopping for a quick little picnic lunch at the falls. Also, there are no confusing forks or turns...pretty much a straight shot to the falls. To get back out, you simply go back the way you came. Overall it gains just over 600ft in elevation. It’s relatively flat for the first part with most of the elevation gain in the last 1/2 mile, where the trail becomes very rocky and narrow...but don’t let that scare you off! I’m moderately in shape and was able to handle it...and we even did two other hikes that morning...so if I can do it, you can do it!

Yes it is over some rough ground and lots of climbing, but WOW! The beauty you see as you walk, and the views once you get there, worth it. My 78 year old grandaddy and pregnant daughter did it with no problems. Bathrooms and a water refill station are there at the campground before and after the hike.

Beauty, Nature and Low Difficultly Level
Okt 2019 • Teman
The trailhead for this hike is located within the Lodgepole campground at 7000ft. It is a fairly level hiking trail for novice hikers, families with kids and anyone looking for beautiful granite canyon walls. Round trip is well under 3 miles. The falls are best viewed in the Spring and early summer for maximum water fall activity but water does fall through most of the year.

For us it was the journey, not the destination
Sep 2019
We absolutely loved this hike. We went early and parked in the public campground parking lot. Make sure to leave time to stop along the way and enjoy the creek and scenery. You wander through the woods, along the creek, and along some large boulders. When we got to the falls, we were less than thrilled because the water flow was lower at this time of year. The scenery was gorgeous, but it was hot and rocky with no shade so we decided to turn back quickly and head to the creek bed to enjoy our lunch. Because the water was so low, we were able to walk right out on the creek bed rock and sit among the trees and cliffs. It was not an easy hike per se... but if you take your time and leave time for exploring its very enjoyable. My 4 yr old made it with only a little bit of complaining. Definitely put this on your list.

Pleasant HIking with not too much Elevation
Sep 2019
This hike is close to the Lodgepole Visitor Center which is a popular area within the park with several campgrounds and visitor center. I would reccomend heading out there a little earlier in the morning. The beginning of the hike starts out in some shade but eventually gets out in the open where the sun can be a little intense. Overall the hike is pretty relaxing with plenty of views along the way. The hike ends at the falls - I believe that the falls are probably more or less intense during the time of year you visit. In the early September timeframe, there was some water flowing, but nothing too crazy. It sounds like at peak, there are pools where one can swim in the area. Due to the vicinity of the trailhead, there were several folks that I ran accross during the trail hike.

Gorgeous hike to a wonderful waterfall
Agt 2019
The hike to Tokopah Falls was the highlight of our trip. It is a fairly easy hike almost 4 miles round trip. But all during the hike, the river, the meadows, surrounding mountains are all breathtaking. Once you get to the Falls, be sure to get in the water as it starts the river. It is extremely refreshing and such a fun experience. The images are forever engraved in my memory. I highly highly recommend everyone to experience the beauty this hike has to offer. You won't regret it!

My friends and I spontaneously decided to do this trail when we overhead someone else talking about it (we didn't know it was there) and I couldn't have asked for a better way to end the day than the amazing swim in the Bottom of the Waterfall!!
