The church is set in a picturesque setting overlooking the ocean. There is a cemetary next to it with graves from long ago to some quite recent. We had heard you could spot whales from here but did not see any the day we visited.

No where else in the Hawaiian islands can one find the perfectly balanced worship style at Keawala'i church that blends traditional protestant worship with island aloha and ohana. Its history and location match equally the worship experience that includes both English and Hawaiian in the prayers and hymns. It you can't attend worship, visit any time to stroll the historic grounds and building and watch the humpbacks, if you are there during whale season.

This was a nice little congregational church near the ocean but with no access. The church was 135 years old and the graveyard is right on the property. It is on the main road so you can't miss it.

this one was built in 1832 and has been restored many times over the years. The view from here is over the water and simply wonderful. The cemetery is also of interest since it has some pretty old graves of people who were born right around the time of this church being built. We couldn't go inside but tried to imagine a service of Hawaiians singing in there language.
It was quite inspirational to be here.
You can park for free right outside the church grounds.

The shorelines of Maui are dotted with these little missionary churches that have been preserved from the 1840s to the 1860s. Many of the tour guides and operators will try to convince you that anything associated with the missionaries was bad and they will simply neglect these sites. If you get a chance, you should visit as many of these sites as you can, and in particular this one, to get a more balanced perspective of Hawaiian history. The building, grounds and geography of this site are all wonderful, and makes for an easy one-hour stop for those interested in architectural history or the history of Americans in Hawaii.

I have attended services here on 3 different trips to Maui. I love the beauty of the building and the welcoming environment. The service is presented in English and Polynesian languages adding to the experience of Aloha. I always encourage friends that are visiting the islands to try and attend a church service in one of the ancient churches. This one has been especially enjoyable to us over the years. We love the conch shells that are played, the open windows, and the scenic setting.

A church that was first built of grass in 1832 and later of rock and wood in 1856 this spot teems of history. If you visit Wailea then you must take the extr 10 mins to drive to Makena Road and see this historic property. The sound of the surf is right outside while you stroll the grounds and read the inscriptions in the graveyard. It's a quiet visit that you won't regret.

Architecture, built in lava stone. The location and setup are impressive, the view is magnificent, the garden is great. Worth a visit after a hot day on the beach.

Our stop at the church was one of peace and quiet. It is situated in a serene location, a place where an individual can go to reflect and enjoy a beautiful and tranquil part of the island. It is a must see during your trip to Maui.

This old stone church and cemetery was a must see, once we saw the flowered cross. We walked the grounds looking at the architecture of the church and viewed the adjacent cemetery. Quite picturesque with the ocean as a backdrop.
