A real gem of a museum
Agt 2021
Very tasteful and thoughtful introduction to Maine’s indigenous people. Their story is told through their eyes, and we were moved by their artistry and history. We came away with a desire to learn more, not only about the Wabenaki people, but also about other Native Americans.

I learned so much!
Agt 2021
I learned so much about the indigenous people of Maine. I came away with a much deeper appreciation of the various groups that live in Maine. I loved hearing their own stories, seeing their art, etc.

Kind of disappointing
Okt 2019
I really wanted to like this museum better as I appreciate native american history but this just was not that interesting or well put together. Like someone said most interesting thing were the canoes.

Native museum
Okt 2019
We had high hopes for this museum, as we were given this as a must see place to visit. There were some interesting items and wonderful handiwork, especially on woven baskets, but were truly disappointed on the age of the items. Most items on display are relatively new with little ancient or even just old relecs.

A rainy day in Bar Harbor~

Beautiful Native American artwork, woven baskets and canoes. Not a real large facility.

Plenty of books to purchase in the Gift Shop.

Parking is pay at the kiosk...

The museum has a Smithsonian affiliation but not the same vibe
Sep 2019
This museum with its focus on a local native tribe was listed as one of Bar Harbor's attractions in my guide book. The exterior of the building has the appearance of an older multistoried house but the displays are all on one floor. Visit this museum if the history and culture of the Wabanaki tribe interests you. At the entrance was a bright spacious room with information boards about this tribe. A timeline and drawings illustrated the factual information. See samples of their dress, a birch bark canoe, crafts, legends, and lifestyle in another room off the main entrance. Seniors' admission rate was $7 which surprised me as the Smithsonian museums in Washington are free. Without a car, the added benefit of free admission to another museum site was not an advantage. I visited this museum when our cruise ship docked in the harbor. This museum is about a 10 minute walk from the harbor. It's located opposite the Village Green park.
