I LOVE THIS CHOCOLATE. ESPECIALLY THE COCONUT. ALL OF IT IS GOOD, BUT THIS IS MY PERSONAL FAVORITE.
I love this chocolate. Especially the coconut. Very pure chocolate.
All of the delicious chocolates are good, but coconut with lovely big chunks, is especially fabulous.

With zero plan in mind, we pulled off the road to Hana and found this little gem. The owner, Ms. Gold, personally wrapped our delicious chocolate. Ms. Gold was extremely helpful and talked with us for a while. We would definitely recommend stopping here to grab a bar of chocolate or two or three. The chocolate soap and lip balm are awesome too. Glad we found this place and would definitely recommend.

We had a reservation for a tour of the chocolate farm so even though it was raining, we went. We arrived only to be told that our tour had been cancelled. They had our email and phone number but didn't call. Unless the weather is perfect, I suggest calling to confirm your tour that morning.

We also really needed to use the bathroom upon arriving and were told we needed to go a quarter mile up the road to use the facilities.

Lastly, we still bought some chocolate because my whole family loves chocolate. It's pretty hard to disappoint us with chocolate. We were disappointed. The chocolate was quite bitter (even the milk chocolate) and the flavored chocolates tasted metallic and fake. And the tiny chocolate bars cost $8 each.

Alton is a Farmer and Master Chocolate Maker. On 10 acres of land his family has had for 50 years he grows three varieties of cacao trees and turns those into chocolate on site! It’s the only Branch to Bar in Maui and one of the few places in the whole world. The chocolate is amazing, and the tour experince is really heart felt and passionate. Their commitment to the land and to natural farming and making natural sustainable chocolate that tastes amazing is admirable. If you are already a fan of bean to bar single field chocolate then this place is a real treat, a master class in cacao. The tour beat all our expectations and it was the highlight of our Hana drive.

This is quite a remarkable tour. The chocolate products are excellent. Well worth a visit if you want to understand the Chocolate industry - locally and world wide.

My wife spotted a sign that said "CHOCOLATE PLANTATION". Of course, we had to pull over. After driving up, there was a young, hard working gent who was both giving tours/tastings and making chocolate all at the same time. We were shown what the pods look like, received a fulsome explanation of how the chocolate is made, and then given samples of everything they make.

It's all delicious, especially the Miel (not to be confused with Honey - this is the fleshy part of the cocoa bean with some pectin added). Soooo tasty.

The only downside is that we bought two chocolate bars for $8 each (a bit pricey, but they really are good bars and it supports the little guy!), only to find the same bars on sale at the Lava Tube for $7. That was a bit upsetting to see that we paid more to buy it "direct", but I'm not sure it's the fault of Hana Gold versus the Lava Tube trying to offload its stock quicker or some other reason.

Either way, absolutely worth a visit!

I enjoyed this, wasn't my favorite stop along the drive but worth seeing if you're interested in how chocolate is made, from plant to chocolate bar. It's family owned and they try to do things right, using other local businesses and organic products, etc. Any person interested in seeing how a local business operates or how chocolate is produced would like this tour. Its a little longer than a hour and you should call to schedule ahead of time.

As a huge chocoholic, I’ve always been interested in learning how chocolate is made. On our way back from Hana to Kīhei, I insisted that we stop at the Maui Gold plantation, where you can book a tour in advance online. Unfortunately we didn’t know about the advance reservation so we only stopped to see the plantation and their products.

At first I was surprised at the price - each bar is sold at $8. After talking to Francine, I learned that the entire plantation is family-run, and not at all like a factory. In fact, there’s a nice little kitchen with a big glass window where you can see how they make the chocolates. All the cacao beans are also grown on the farm, where they then ferment it, grind it, and make it into chocolate. Hearing their process made me realize how much effort is put into making real, organic, and healthy chocolate, rather than the factory-made, big-brand ones like Aeros (those only contain 10% cacao).

Francine was so lovely and nice, providing us with samples of the different types of chocolate bars offered. She even brought over a cacao pod and let us sample the cacao pulp wrapped around each bean.

It was great to stop by on our way home, learn how chocolate is really made, and stock up on some delicious, real chocolate. Definitely recommend visiting!
