Our guides provided a great experience. They provided excellent historic context for the area as well as great support during the snorkeling. Highly recommend this as part of your HI trip.

Really cool tour. Had lots of elements including education about the bay itself and the significance to the eco system, the cultural/historical significance, and the conservation efforts going on. There was kayaking, snorkeling, and snacks as well. The kayak ride is a bit demanding but pretty doable for most people. We saw tons of fish, coral, and sea urchins. We saw dolphins jumping in the distance. Above all, our tour guide Bamm made the experience great and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. The cost for this feels a bit high but I still say it was worth it.

Bam and Gianna were great. Lots of knowledge about the area and the history of Hawaii. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to see some of the best snorkeling in the world.

Evan our guide was simply amazing!! He was very knowledgeable and also entertaining. Took care of our every need ! The company is very involved in eco conservation as an added bonus. This tour is one if not the best kayak/snorkeling tours on all the island. Highly recommend it !

This was a fabulous snorkel and kayaking adventure. The guide helped everyone get in and out of their kayak. We had a delicious lunch at the statue. The snorkeling was wonderful.

I really enjoyed the paddleboarding lesson and experience! My teenagers were excited to try and it I had a hard time finding a company who rented paddleboards. I called several places and was excited to find Kona Boys. I had used them before for a snorkeling trip and knew it was a great group. We had an hour lesson with Grant, who was awesome. I liked that it was not really a lesson, but more constructive feedback and pointers while we were playing out on the water. We spent a few minutes going over the basics on land, but spent 60 minutes out on the ocean and then we had another 30 minutes playing on our own. I had gone a few times before but felt a lot more confident after Grant gave us some tips and he even taught us how to do a headstand on the board! I would highly recommend and thought Grant did an awesome job,

I love Kona Boys! I used them for a kayak tour 19 years ago and was anxious to come back. Steve was super friendly and helped my younger daughter paddle in the kayak and was super customer service focused. He was very informative about the island and marine life and made sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of. We found a great spot to snorkel and saw a ton of marine life. Steve made the trip fun and educational and I highly recommend!

This was an amazing kayak and snorkle. Bamm as a guide knew so much information about the area, the history and all the conservation going into maintaining the corals. The fact that Kona Boys are working with all the agencies to help restore any losses and Bamm ‘s excitement telling us about it was infectious.

This is our 5th kayak and snorkel tour with Kona Boys. They are fabulous. Bamm (yes that is his great name!) Was our guide. Knowledge and very helpful. We kayaked across the bay and had the most splendid snorkel experience. Tue clearest water anywhere. 100's of different kinds of fish and coral. We also learned about replanting of coral. Great collaboration of the State of Hawaii, federal waters and local native peoples. Go kayak and snorkel with Kona Boys!

This kayak and snorkel adventure is one of our very favorite things to do on the Island. Bamm was a fantastic guide and all of the staff are friendly and helpful. Great conditions and the personal attention is so much nicer than those "big boat" tours.

Aloha and mahalo for the message. There are two trails that come to mind near Kealakekua Bay. The first is the hiking trail that accesses the Bay. The trailhead is a t the top of Napoopoo Rd. The second trail goes south from the City if Refuge within the state park.

We are experienced but not advanced kayakers. Do you think that simply renting the kayaks from Kona Boys is fine, instead of joining the tour? Or are there some nuisances to the trip that would require a guide?
Also, how crowded does the snorkeling get in the meandering afternoon kayak /Snorkel tour? If we did book one, we were thinking of that, and not the morning tour.

There's nothing tricky about the trip to the Captain Cook Monument except the landing area. It's small and hard to notice as you approach. We were on the morning tour and as the day progresses, more people and boats showed up for snorkeling. Also the wind started to pick up in the afternoon. Our guides from Kona Boys were very knowledgeable and helpful. They shared a lot of local history during the trip.

Is this a tour that is suitable for grandparents with some cardiovascular issues? We would love to share this experience with our
grands, but don't want to slow them down. Also, what is the travel time from Kawaihae area to Kona Boys tours for Kealakekua Bay?

Mahalo for reaching out. We can't recommend the tour for someone with cardiovascular concerns. I can tell you that the paddle is about 2 miles round trip and we go at a relatively easy pace. The drive from Kawaihae to our shop in Kealakekua is just over an hour. We hope this helps, please feel free to give us a call at the shop if you would like to talk more in detail. Aloha.

Does the wa'a charter option include a guide to accompany/instruct us?

Aloha and mahalo for your question. A Kona Boys steersman is included with all wa'a (canoe) rides. They will help with fundamentals and share all kinds of interesting info while you paddle.

We're an older couple in our 60s in good health ( we walk at least 5 miles a day) but no experience in kayaking. Is this a tour for us?

We had no previous experience and it get well. However, we had wind on our way back and thus it was more sporty. An older couple had difficult time but because the husband couldn't paddle properly; but the staff support and help them.
Do not hesitate to do it, the bay worth it!
