Small but quality museum that covers not just the mining history of Black Diamond but life from every era since its founding. The building isn't huge but they manage to pack a ton of artifacts and information in without ever seeming crowded. The use of dolls instead of manikins at times is maybe a little homey but it works. There is a train car outside that you can walk through too. It's just the right combination of reading and stuff to see that kids wouldn't be totally bored. Even my friend who is okay with museums but not really enthusiastic said he was impressed by this one. Cost is a suggested donation. Not tons of parking nearby but the street also has some of the older buildings on it and cute shops including a meat smoking company that's worth a visit. Totally worth our trip.

What a local treasure! We took our 7 year old grandson after lunch at the Black Diamond Bakery. Wonderful little hidden treasure for an hour or two of kids fun. Grandson had a great time playing on the locomotive and caboose out front, then went into museum where very friendly docents gave him a search project to find things in the museum. He loved looking for the search objects and the candy prize at the end. Interesting for us grandparents too!

This quite small museum has more artifacts than seems possible, accurately depicting the town's history. My favorite place is the basement, viewing all the articles from this former company town.

It's fun for the whole family. Very interesting about the mining days of Black Diamond. There is a train car out front that the you can go through and you can even toot the horn. Kids love this part.

This museum thoroughly covers the history of the local area and its history as a coal mining center. In addition, there are relics of the town and its culture dating from the late 19th century. The docent provided a great overview of the area from its inception to present. Easily worth a couple of hours of just looking at vignettes of the way things used to be in the coalfields of Washington. An absolute must for the history buff.

The Black Diamond Museum tells the story of coal in the NW. It also goes back into time to tell of the history of this part of the NW. Lots of exhibits both of the coal industry and the towns around Black Diamond and the people. Pictures, items and stories of the society that grew from the discover of coal. Very interesting if you enjoy history and the story of people.
