Right on the allied ridge of the battlefield of Bussaco this small museum is packed full of artefacts from the battle and the period. The film (which can be subtitled in a variety of languages including English) is extremely good and very detailed. Some of the dioramas are a bit dated but generally this is a good military museum specifically on the Bussaco battle.

Museum had some artifacts and pictures of the Napoleonic Peninsular War...all descriptions in only Portuguese. The diorama of the Bussaco battle was undergoing repair but was a great model. The film had English subtitles. There were life sized figures wearing uniforms.

Really amazing how many artefacts (guns, uniform and other) were collected just about one battle, considering that battle happened on start on 19 century - all pieces are in perfect condition and video is very informative. Just one thing to improve - to translate description below artefacts for English and french, but we used google translate', so no problem anyway. Nice smiley lady on reception, public toilet facility and very reasonable price for ticket 2 euro per adult / children free - making visit even more pleasant and enjoyable:)

A small exhibition that should appeal to enthusiasts but is only a 30 minute visit otherwise. If you have read the Sharpe novels by Bernard Cornwell about the Peninsular war it also will have interest for you.

This will not be the biggest or fanciest museum of the Napoleonic Wars that you can visit, but being that it's settled on one of the most iconic locations of the Campaign for the Peninsular Wars, you can be sure that it will not dissapoint in terms of what it stores in it's collection. A large range of documentation is available at sight for those who wish to acknowledge deeper about the local history related to those times, and also some very rare pieces are available in display.
The curator was lovely as he tried his best to explain the most out of every single custom and weaponry that was in sight.

Excellent little museum with some interesting maps, weapons and video documentary on the 3 French invasions of Portugal and spirited Anglo-Luso heroic battles. Quite cold in winter so wrap-up warm.

Worth a visit to see where the French were beaten by Anglo Portugese forces. Excellent arms and battle descriptions. Well worth a visit.

You can find unique pictures and items from the French invasion and British troops fights.It is located in an high position so you can imagine all the battles downhill.

The Military Museum at the Buçaco was opened in 1910, enlarged and extended and remodelled in 1962, you will see into the small museum a valuable collection of weapons, uniforms and several equipment’s used during the war, which is distinguished by a piece of artillery with the proper accessories.
The location of the Museum is in front of one of the two principal entrees to the Buçaco Palace and garden.
When you come from Coimbra, you can take the IP3 in the direction Viseu, than take the 1st exit for “Penacova”, turn left under the IP3 direction for “LUSO – BUÇACO” on the crossroad continue in front and do this until you arrive in “Luso” this after about 19 km, than you will see the signs for it.
The second option is that you take the “IC2” direction “PORTO”, follow until the roundabout in “MEALHADA” who shows you the sign to turn right direction “Luso – Buçaco”” 7 km, than you will arrive in “Luso”, on the traffic lights were you have on your right the restaurant “O CESTEIRO”.
Here you till continue uphill, and do not leave on the first indication (In a left Curve), but yes on the second one, who obligates you to make a 180º turn to the right, and to drive uphill on a small old paved road, and after about 250 meters you are on the Museum, you will have to look careful to find a parking space for the car, because there is no parking provided.
