I have nothing else to add to what everyone else said - great view of the valley.
My adult son with limited walking ability enjoyed climbing a few rocks and walking little trails. My husband and my young son did some fun posing for photos. Just a really nice stop with perfect lightning for photos

There are many overlooks along the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you are driving south from I-64, this will be fairly early along your drive - don't miss it. The parking lot will likely be full, but it has one of the best views of the valley. Adjacent to the parking area is a small, flat, rocky area where you can take great pictures and have the view behind you.

Beautiful view of the valley below. On a clear day you can see the Allegheny Mountains on the other side. Also a launching point for hang gliders.

This is one of my favorite places to view the valley, especially in the fall. On a clear day, you can see north all the way to Waynesboro. Parking is easy, and it’s not too far from Afton, where there is usually a truck selling fresh kettle corn.

On a relatively clear day you have an expansive view of the Shenandoah Valley across to the Allegheny Mountains west and northwest to Staunton and Waynesboro. Rock slides on Mt. Torrey in immediate foreground are just above Sherando Lake (not visable from overlook), only 10 minutes away via SR 664 (next road crossing to south).

This and the other overlooks along the Blue Ridge Parkway are excellent examples of the quality of our national park system and the gems it protects and preserves for the public. Take time to take in the view, the air and the feeling of freedom.

Not only is the overlook beautiful but the drive to it also had similar inspiring views. Definitely worth seeing.

Driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway has been on my bucket list for a long time, and we recently spent 2 days driving parts of it. Raven's Roost Overlook is a great place to stop the car and take some photos.

Is this a normal blue ridge parkway overlook or do you have to take a trail. Just wondering as we are going with someone who has stage 4 cancer and can’t do a lot. Staying at devils backbone and was just looking for interesting views, country stores, great scenic roads, or neat places to visit. TIA we’re from NC and have been every mile of the parkway pretty much up into the southern part of Virginia.

This is a normal overlook that you stop at while driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can literally sit in the car and still enjoy the view from the overlook, and a short walk (less than 40 feet) brings you to a non-asphalted area where you can sit on rocks and look down in to the valley. If your guest can walk a little, then the first stage of Crabtree Falls is fully paved and not too strenuous. The drive from the Parkway down to the falls is fairly scenic, and there is a nice country store to stop at on the way there. If you don't feel like going in to Charlottesville, Crozet is a cute little town with a nice pizzeria (Crozet Pizza), a brewery (Star Hill), a few art shops and more. You can check out my other reviews for what we liked about the places to stop along the "Brew Ridge Parkway" (151). Don't miss Bold Rock Cider, Blue Mountain Brewery and Brewing Tree!
