We drove the loop on a nice sunny day. This is rugged land with several nice hikes. You can see the three bridges from lookouts along the road or hike under them. They are all very impressive wide bridges. We had a picnic under a tree. The road and facilities are well maintained. There is a camp ground which would be a great place for dark sky viewing.

Loved everything about this National Monument. The scenic, paved road is only 9 miles but be sure to stop at as many sights as you have time for. I did the Sipapu Bridge Hike which was a little steep and required a ladder and a few staircases to get to the viewpoint ledge. It’s only halfway down but provides an excellent view so I didn’t feel like I needed to go further. Then both my husband and I did the Horsecollar Ruin Overlook trail where you can see Puebloan cliff dwellings. This was a less than one mile hike and I thought quite easy. I was glad my husband could do this one with me in spite of his bad back. Stopped at the Owachomo Bridge Viewpoint and the Visitor’s Center as well. We had no charge upon entering the park with our Senior National Park pass. We did this all in half a day. This is a must stop if you are ever in the area. Very well maintained.

This is a get out of car to visit park. Although the scenery is great looking out the car window driving around the loop road it is basically as beautiful as the drive to the park. You will need to walk to the handicap accessible view platforms to view the natural bridges which are formed down in the canyons. The sun and shading can make them difficult to spot under certain circumcises. If you are healthy the best view is to hike down to them. Take water and take your time and get out and walk around but be sure to stay on the trails the soil organisms are fragile.

Natural Bridges has all the great hikes and views that all the reviewers have mentioned. What they didn't talk about is the great campground. This campground features large campsites with tent pads (sand-filled areas that make a soft place to sleep), picnic tables and fire rings. The cost is $15 per night This visitor center has a water dispenser for those who need it. Given that the nearest formal campground is about 30 miles away, Natural Bridges Campground is a refuge that has access to all the great hiking and ruins on Cedar Mesa, Elk Ridge, Comb Ridge and even the Abajo Mountains.
Coupled with the pleasant and helpful staff at the visitor center, I find this one of the finest places to stay in the Southwest.

I had come to Natural Bridges from Hovenweep on Hwy 262 which was full of potholes. Not fun. However, once I got off that road the drive through Bears Ears to Natural Bridges was much better and very scenic. There was one point where they cut through the mountain to build the road. It opens up into a vast canyon and then you go up the other side. Amazing.
By the time I got to Natural Bridges the bookstore wasn’t open and wouldn’t reopen until 2PM. I got there around noon. This was a great park. Lovely drive. It was a cold and cloudy day and not too many people were in the park. I went to all the overlooks but didn’t do any of the long hikes to the bridges themselves because I was too tired and sore from a week of hiking.
Went to the Sipapu Bridge Viewpoint then to the Horse Collar Ruin Overlook. That had a .6 mile trail to get to the overlook. It’s sad that people were passing this trail by because it had some really pretty canyon views before getting to the Indian ruins. It was VERY windy though. Coming around the corner the wind blasted and pushed me backwards.
Next was the Kachina Bridge Viewpoint. The last one was the Owachomo Bridge Viewpoint and I did that trail even though it was steep down into the canyon. It was only .5 miles. The bridge did look a lot better from underneath so it was definitely worth the hike. And once I got back up to the top it was snowing!!! Not a lot but enough to be exciting for someone who rarely sees snow.
There was also a pullout to get a look at Bears Ears. Then went back to the visitor center which now was open since it was about 2:30PM and bought some neat items in the bookstore.

We visited Natural Bridges National Monument since it was only a short drive from Bears Ears. Natural Bridges National Monument (6,200-ft), situated high atop Cedar Mesa, illustrates the power of water in shaping a high desert landscape. Intermittent streams have cut two deep canyons and three massive bridges in sandstone formed from what was once the shore of an ancient sea that covered the area. Trails, starting on the mesa, descend into the canyons to the bridges, named "Kachina," "Owachomo" and "Sipapu" in honor of the Native Americans that once lived in the area. A longer trail meanders along the bottom of scenic White and Armstrong Canyons and across the mesa, connecting the three bridges in a great 9 mile loop hike. We love this looped scenic drive and not having to step over people when we are at the overlooks and while hiking the trails leading to Sipapu and Owachomo.

Growing up in Utah I thought I'd seen everything but I had never been to this area before. It was wonderful! The three bridges are easy to see from viewpoints you can stop at. I'd love to do the hike through all three someday in the fall or spring.
If you're traveling through the area to someplace else, take the time to stop and see these natural wonders.

What an underrated National Monument!
We visited the monument yesterday and were really happy with how beautiful and well maintained the monument is. Staff at the Visitors Center were very friendly and informative.
It’s s 9 mile one-way loop around the monument. Of course we stopped at all of the lookouts and view points. Our favorite was the 3rd bridge, named Owachomo Bridge. It was a relatively short walk to the base of the bridge. It was really neat. You can go right under the bridge!
Thank you National Park Service.

Beautiful place to explore 3 Natural Bridges and the creek bed that created them. Plenty of spots to stop and take pictures, or hike.

We're thinking of adding this in to a plan for this October as well- how long did you spend driving around the actual park seeing the sites? We wouldn't have time to hike either so wondering what time should be allowed just to drive it. Thanks!

We took about 2 hours last October to do the drive. Depending on which bridge you hike to will extend your time. It was quite warm/hot si ne prepared. The later in the day the more spectacular due to the shadow and coloring.

Hello , we are going to be in Monument valley for 1 night , then drive UT 95 N to Capital Reef NP and over night in Torrey

It is around a 5 hour drive from Monument Valley to Torrey via UT 95. Depending on you driving style you should be able to spend an hour or so Natural Bridges.
Please go with a full tank of gas. After Blanding (if you go that far) there and no services until Hanksville.
The drive is beautiful and stop at the Hite Overlook a couple miles after you cross the Colorado River. While no facilities there, it is a nice place to eat lunch and look over the Colorado River valley.

How are the roads from Mexican Hat or Valley of the Gods to NBNM.. Are they winding, drop offs, switch backs? Thank you

Basically, the roads are good and traversable. There is a stretch of road called the Moki Dugway that has a steep ascent or descent depending on which way you're traveling. It is a gorgeous drive with unparalleled scenery, so I would suggest taking this road unless you do not feel comfortable with winding roads, hairpin curves, and steep grades of roads.

we have a partially disabled son. do all the bridges require ladders and climbing?

I know that disabilities come in many different kinds, but I think all the overlooks at Natural Bridges are fully accessible. Getting to the bridges themselves is a bit harder, but the Owachomo bridge trail is the shortest, has stairs but no ladder, and gets you right underneath the bridge itself.

We're heading out on a road trip to CO and UT and will already be hitting up Arches National Park. Is it worth adding another day to our trip and another 5+ hours of driving to hit up National Bridges as well?

Amerika Serikat151 kontribusi
I'd say yes for the same reason another answerer said no. The arch and bridge formations are not totally dissimilar, but your experience at the two parks is likely to be very different. We went to both in early April a day apart. Arches was very busy and Bridges was less so. I liked the experience at Bridges better because it was more intimate being less packed. It also depends on how much hiking you plan to do. If you plan to do the short hikes to see the Bridges that's a great park to see. If you're mostly going to drive through the parks you'll get to see more at Arches....and Bridges might not be worth the extra time.

Is it allowed and possible to hike natural bridges at night? (at least the short hike to owachomo bridge)?

If you camp there on a full moon phase would be an excellent adventure. As to "allowed and possible"? I don't think there is anyone there to stop you....that said or to help you. This park is extremely remote...though easy to access.
You could easily hike out of the north or west end of the campground anytime...your car would be seen on the driving loop.

How much time should we plan on spending at Natural Bridges-we'll be doing the drive, and maybe a short hike. Thanks!

An hour for "lookie Lou"...drive and walk to overlooks. You can spend a whole day doing the bottom walk...highly recommended but definitely not for the unprepared or infirm. Keep in mind this is very remote...little supervision.
This is a great place to camp and if you can time the full moon, would be an excellent long hike from the campground.

Can anyone tell me about tent camping options close to the park if the campground is full. I see from the website that BLM land adjacent to the park provides overflow space, but there are absolutely no details other than that. If you've used the BLM sites, got any details? Thanks in advance.
Hey! My husband and I just went camping down there this last weekend. There are a TON of dispersed camping spots close to the park.. when you are traveling down SR 275 towards Natural Bridges, there are either 2 or 3 dirt road pull off's on the right side of the road... we went down one that was called Deer Mile or something very close to that, we passed a bunch of primitive spots with fire rings and lots of places for tent set-up. I am fairly confident that you should have no issues :) We were able to get a pretty big site with lots of trees and flowers and saved ourselves the money we would have paid at the campground!
Plus, it was a bonus... the 13 campsites in the park are small and extremely close together. It was nice having our own remote location, lots of trees and no neighbors nearby.
