Went for a walk on a wet Sunday, more drizzle than rain.

It's a 15-20 minute walk from the raod / car park at the Bothy at Kilbride Farm. You will go through parts where the path is non existent and muddy / boggy areas.

The bay is fine, to be fair it's no better than most we visited and they don't entail a 20 minute traipse over moorland and an old path to get there!

The dog loved it.... it has water so she would! and we enjoyed what was fairly bracing weather.

Not a bay I'd bother re-visiting in all fairness due to the palaver getting to it.

Lucky for us it was a beautiful warm day when we visited this beach for the first time, cannot be accessed by car so involves a 20 min walk down a cobbled track beside a little cafe shack with meals, drinks and Ice cream. The walk was worth it as the view was breathtaking with just a handful of people there today. Lots of dunes and a vast beach with views of hills and woodland absolutely stunning. I’d say wear walking shoes if weather unsettled as could be slippy at different times of year on track. A must see if holidaying on Cowal Peninsula. Simply stunning.

This is not an easy place to access as we found out to our cost as we trailed up and down a single track road in our car to no avail. Our satnav kept taking us to a track which was blocked by a high padlocked gate. (I managed to climb past this however my wife wasn’t able to do so as she has a historic knee injury). We subsequently discovered that this is a private road to some properties which overlook the beach and the owners apparently erected the gate after having difficulties with visitors parking inconsiderately, etc. It is unfortunate for the general public since this is the shortest route to the beach on foot from the road but it is now for the use of a handful of people and possibly makes the beach that bit more exclusive too.

If coming from the Portavadie Ferry take a right at Millhouse crossroads and follow the road until you reach The Bothy at Kilbride Farm. There is parking in a layby here. We followed the track alongside the café on foot for a mile or so and took a path through some fields marked “To the Beach” which eventually led to the wonderful expanse of sand. The latter section covers very boggy ground and we had to detour a couple of times, even with hiking boots on, to avoid going up to our ankles in water.

The bonus of visiting out of season was that we almost had the beach to ourselves. Only a child in welly boots with her mother and gran had ventured along the route around the same time as us.

On the day it was breezy and the water likely freezing however we enjoyed taking a walk the entire length of the beach which is in a picturesque setting. Elsewhere in the world, with more convenient access it would be a favourite with many however perhaps the circumstances make it all the more attractive to those who manage to find it. We thought it was idyllic for a walk.

There are no facilities at the beach itself however if you can be bothered, take a picnic or alternatively just pop in to “The Bothy” for refreshments in the passing. We did so and enjoyed paninis and some cake and coffee - cash is preferred by the owners who were friendly.

Well worth the longish walk in! Much beloved by dog walkers and their. dogs!
Such a beautiful beach with soft sand and plenty of pools to splash through or walk around. The approach to the beach can. be very boggy and. boots /wellies recommended. Do watch for ticks as they seem to thrive here - both on dogs and humans!!

The route to the beach is not signed, there are no clues for first time visitors. The way to get there is to step over or duck under the chain that stretches between two gate posts. These posts are to the right of the cafe. I don't know why it's there, could be so that first timers are forced to go through the gate to the left where you find the most expensive, miniscule, tub of ice cream for sale in Scotland. Does the management from the cafe keep the chain in place? I heard one man complain that it had just cost him a tenner (for ice creams he felt obliged to purchase) just so he could ask for directions from the cafe staff. Is this planned? I don't know but just be aware of the high cost of a lolly and, if you don't need a lolly, step over the chain and walk past the cafe on your left. If you do want a lolly, remortgage the house before you go there - just kiddin' The beach is as described by other contributors - enjoy!

Clean, quiet beach. Very nice to relax on and the nearby cafe is delicious, the best food for after a long day at the beach.
Beware the walk to the beach may be longer than you expect. I recommend taking your items in a backpack. My 80 year old grandmother managed it with some breaks.

Found this beach googling best beaches to visit whilst on holiday. It is not signposted at all which I think it a good thing. The road getting to the last section is single track with hardly any passing places so not for the fain hearted. There is a layby which does not hold many cars and luckily we did not know this and being late in the afternoon managed to get a space okay. We did go the wrong way walking there as it is not sign posted and walked along the road at first. When we finally found it though WOW. It is beautiful, unspoiled and the sea was lovely. We did visit on a beautiful day but plenty of room on the beach. Backed by woods and the mountains in the distance. Walked back the right way which is about a 20 minutes slow walk with a bothy at the end selling drinks etc and biscuits for our dog. Would love to go back and spend a whole day but would have to get there very early to be able to park. Hope it remains a secret.

This beach is fabulous brilliant for children of all ages sandy and shallow lovely family day out take a picnic and chairs, great for kayaking or paddle boards.
Is a 3 mile return walk not suitable for wheelchairs or unsteady on your feet as half of path is rocky the rest is over a field which can be muddy.
You park at side of road but can be busy so adds to walk.
The bothy at the entance serves drinks lovely cakes etc and has picnic benches to relax after your walk.
