The museum is in an old home, and be warned, no AC. We visited in November, so no problem. Each room was really packed with amazing items, and the men there are very informative. I was particularly struck by the story of the young engineering student who lost his leg and went on to design his own prothesis. The Union government was so impressed by his design they comissioned him to design for others. He went on to create his own company that today is the biggest maker of prosthetics.

This place is tiny, but it's just chocked full of Civil War artifacts, weapons, and information. Admission is free, but they encourage donations.

We would really have enjoyed our visit
If we had been able to actually get into the smaller rooms instead of being blocked by the hosts being very inconsiderate and not telling their stories in the big room. This occurred by both host that were there today
We were unable to completely visit the museum we enjoy history and would have loved to see the complete museum
Will not recommend because of this
Your stories were probably very informative please be more aware of the number of people in your museum

I spotted this while driving through a side neighborhood. Was at first hestiant given the small size of the building...but was completely, pleasantly surprised with what I found inside. This Civil War period collection is impressive, and the curator/director Mike Couch may be the museum's best treasure. He easily spent 90 minutes with me explaining each display, often sharing facts/stories that added depth, color and meaning to each. While I'm not a Civil War buff, I do enjoy History; I left with a far greater appreciation of that period thanks largely to Mike.
Note: some earlier comments have cited concerns that the presentations are one-sided and lack balance. That was not my impression...and Mike did not promote a singular view. Know that this collection focuses with pride on the role and significant contribution of South Carolina during that period. I say "well done"!.

Very interesting artifacts, staff was very friendly and walked us through everything, great place to learn the History not thought on schools anymore

My son and I attended a zoo outing with his Cub Scout pack. As we left the zoo I saw the sign for the museum. My seven year old son takes after his Dad and is interested in history so we decided to stop in. For such a small museum it had a wealth of artifacts. We had a tour through the museum with one of the curators. We spent well over an hour listening to the story behind so many artifacts. I’ve ready several books on the civil war and thought I was relatively schooled however I came away much better insight and perspective on this costly war.
I can’t say enough about the passion the volunteers have for our history. It was so awesome to see my son so engaged.
If your in Greenville and you like history you will not be disappointed.

I have lived in this area all my life but I recently found this hidden treasure. I took my son there and we loved it! There are so many interesting artifacts and the person working there that day was very knowledgeable. I got a sense of history, not hate. I highly recommend visiting

What a pleasant find. This place doesn’t look that big but it is so full of amazing things. We thoroughly enjoyed our time. Ken, one of volunteers, deliver great dialogue that definitely enhanced our visit. Thank you. Would highly recommend this stop to anyone interest in civil war and local history.

My brother and I visited and frankly were amazed at the collection. Further, the staff researched our family history re: the Civil War.

Excellent display from several collectors of artifacts, weapons, uniforms, medical equipment, weaponry, photos, letters, etc, from the Civil War. There is an extensive library for people who want to learn more. There are many volunteers who are more than willing to answer your questions about anything in there. You can buy books and other souvenirs, but entrance to the museum is free. I have read negative reviews of the museum, and it is such a sign of our times. Very sad. If you are going to be offended by a Confederate flag or “white” guys answering questions, do not go Inside this museum. Pretty simple. It’s an unfortunate, ugly part of our nation’s history, but it happened, and if you want to learn more about the war, this is a wonderful collection with knowledgeable people to answer your questions.

Yes, some bullet fragments but it’s mostly replicas. I bought replica confederate money magnets very cheap. It’s worth a look in the gift shop for sure to help support the archive. Bring cash as it’s cash or check only.
