Lovely little church. Peaceful churchyard and a fabulous walnut tree. We also discovered a wonderful walk down to the stream just outside the village. The unassuming footpath starts near Treweese and goes across a stable yard and a couple of fields and then dips down to Trehunsey Cottage, along the stream and up through the woods to Venn Farm. So peaceful. There's a little waterfall and pond with geese and in the woods we saw woodpeckers, and roe deer. Magical. Really enjoyed our visit to the village.

Back after many years looking out for a cluster of family headstones which I found in the top corner of the yard. Perfect in late afternoon light of autumn day. Comparatively unspoilt village still provides wonderful setting for this well preserved small but very important little parish church. Comforted to read online that it has been lovingly cared for and maintained but disappointed that there were almost no signs and nothing to explain dates and times of services, church officials or what arrangement may be made for visitor access to the interior.

If you can brave the extremely narrow lanes to get here, you will not be disappointed. This is a quaint medieval church in an equally quaint village which has probably changed little over time.

Small, beautifully preserved and looked after. Very old features. Pity that times have moved on and observance within the established churches is in terminal decline. Take a look before it is shut down or sold off.

Agree with all previous comments. If you are in this area and find or can arrange for the Quethiock parish church to be open then do take a look. A walk around the compact church yard is also worth it.

My grandparents lived in the village for most of the twentieth century. They were Methodist and disinclined to visit this church but my father took me round to see my great uncle's war grave. We were lucky to see inside the church. Even better than the few photographs at the top of this listing.

Came here forty years ago as a child when family loved here. Remember being shown around both the very simple Methodist chapel and then the parish church. At that time the village seemed completely unspoilt and largely self contained. I have only a feint memory of the church but recall a dusty mustiness with a hint of what I know know to have been incense. When I came back earlier this year the chapel seemed to be closed, perhaps used for very occasional services. This traditional Methodist stronghold seems either to be hibernating or to have slowly faded away. I walked down past the war memorial still bearing the names of a couple of relatives killed in the Great War. Having arranged access to the church which seemed less dry and cellar like I was immediately taken by the marvellous decorated ceiling, better for its period than much grander ones I have seen in flush city churches, fine colleges of even cathedrals. It seems looking back that somehow this little church avoided the worst features of reformation and Puritanism. Looking down at the few but well preserved brasses and gazing through the well kept rood screen created a tide of images ideas and questions. Outside looking up at the u usual small narrow but perfectly formed bell tower I really wished that I could have known the church and village during some of its prime historical times. The village is changed a deal from my last visit. The shop has gone, many gardens and orchards have been built over, farm buildings converted, and old village school long since turned into a dwelling but I feared that maybe the newer one along the road towards Trewese may have also closed. Quethiock is or was a classic south east Cornwall village, formerly almost completely owner by Pentillie Estate. It now has the feel of a dormitory area for Plymouth but I still like it and most of all St Hugh's church.

I agree with last reviewer. We went to a service rather than simply a sightseeing visit. I also think that the ceiling panels are re-reformation rather than pre-restoration, but only because we were told. This may only be a small intimate village church, well off the beaten track, but it is a very effective reminder of the social and religious history of England. So much hands on evidence of the way in which nearly a thousand years of people lived and worshipped.
