This place is massive, this place is good for an impressive photo or two, which may be the only reason to visit but on closer inspection this place sells the same "crap" that you can buy in any street market anywhere in China. There is hardly a thing that contains local branding, or an image that can give meaning to tat, it is all generic, photo-cases, imported dried fruit!, sunglasses, t-shirts, candles, fridge magnets etc etc etc zzzz.
If you ignore the stalls and take the opportunity to reappraise the area as a backdrop to a pretty surreal photoshoot then go ahead, fill your bootsCleanboukg

Beautiful setting for a market. There are plenty of things to see, and do.
At the top, by the temple its streets and stalls but as you go down, behind the temple and closer to the river the square opens out into food places on the river side, a stage with local perfomances.

The items for sale can certainly be found elsewhere but most of the fun is wandering around, taking photos and finding great things to eat.

You can enter at the top through the temple complex first or go around the temple.

(If you go through the temple you'll need to cover past knees, if a woman)

To get the full vibe of this place make sure you come over the weekend. We went on Saturday and Monday. Monday most of the stalls are closed and no performances.

Nice market near the river, you can find a lot of... Photographer's, food, artists and shows... And in the background the temple.

On the first lap, I agree that the wares here are 99% factory-made junk. But persevere on to the floating market and food by the water a be rewarded with better stuff and some really tasty eats. This part of the market, combined with the temple backdrop made the a highlight (albeit there are not many in Jinghong!). Give it a deeper dive or a second visit.

A temple near the market, a river with street food and stalls selling small stuff. The street food is a little pricy as this is a tourist attraction. Some might enjoy it but I find it too touristy, I would prefer Thailand anytime.

Located between the JinHong Golden Pagoda and Mekong River occupying a huge square with hundred stores and shops selling from fresh food, toy and handicrafts to exclusive tea sets made by famous artists. Even if you have a weak stomach and thin pocket (like me) there is still plenty to see and smell and absorb in the atmosphere by just strolling around. Visitors are mostly Chinese (or local folks) so needs to practice hand signs unless you can speak Chinese.
We arrived in late afternoon first to see the Golden Pagoda and the surrounding buildings, then off to the side street for dinner sampling local food before coming to the night market (which gathers momentum only after dark).
It is fun especially for families, to spend the evening hours or as an additional event after visiting the Golden Pagoda.

Lots of stalls and food plus a pretty Temple and views. Restaurants also if you don’t want to try the street food.

Its very nice to spend an evening at this night market with the temple in the background. There are many nice acessoires and also different food. The market is located directly behind the temple close to the river (as we didnt find information about where it is exactly located i upload a picture where you can see the temple and the market, the market is directly behind it).

Gaozhuang Night Market is located at the large square of the Great Golden Pagoda (Dajin Tower) in the newly developed area Gaozhuang Xishuangjing between the traffic circle of Xuanwei Blvd./Lancangjiang Rd. and the left (north- eastern) banks of the Mekong River (Lancangjiang). The whole area resembles the atmosphere of South-East Asian towns and reproduce “Nine Towers and Twelve villages” from ancient Jinghong. This neighborhood integrates attractions, catering and accommodation as a whole on an excellent level but is keeping relation to its local cultural roots thus is developing its own strong character. There is floodlight after dawn spotlighting nearby buildings, which makes the Dajin Tower taking over the dominant role in the whole overwhelming atmosphere. The floodlight at night is very beautiful.
We spend there several hours with eating and shopping and enjoying the ever changing atmosphere. We tried out different local food specialties like grilled fish from the Mekong and many other exotic things, all extremely tasty. We bought handcrafted jewelry, gemstones, fun toys, textiles handmade by local people. We enjoyed the diversity of people and the colors of the night. My camera ran out of memory, so no more photos. The whole evening I haven’t seen any pale skinned Westerner like me while the whole Gaozhuang Night Market was very crowded with Asian Tourists and locals. We had an unforgettable evening there. Highly recommended.
