Such a lovely church set in a quiet part of this charming village. Be sure to look for the carved mice in the church pews.

St Mary’s is a Norman church dating from the mid 12th century. It’s pulpit and pews are the work of Robert Thompson and eleven of his signature mice are featured on his work.
The church has a fine bell tower and the majority of its peal of eight bells date from the seventeenth century.
Ilmington had an unusually large number of apple orchards and this is remembered by the embroidered Apple Map displayed in the church. It is copied from old maps that showed the location of the apple orchards in the village. Ilmington Apple Day is celebrsted asnnuslly with a viewing of the map followed by a walk in search of some of the 38 varieties of apples still grown in the village.
