I was intrigued to see that someone has decided to "review" Thrapstons old LMS River Viaduct. As a resident and occasional visitor to this local landmark, I thought I would offer my thoughts.
ACCESS: The visitors entrance is via a handily placed muddy slope at the side of the old bridge rebutment opposite the new and picturesque Sidings housing estate retaining wall. As you climb the muddy slope grabbing at roots and branches to stop yourself from falling, you get lovely views of the lime staining and tasteful wall plaques placed on the wall by the builders to hide the staining
FEATURES: The viaduct no longer has track and is largely overgrown. It does however boast some fine graffiti as well as one of the larger collections of dog poo in the local area. The gentle festering smell on a warm summer's day is a delight for the nostrils of any rambler or jogger who chooses to use it to cross the river or access the railway path to Stanwick Lakes. Combined with the gentle thrumming of the adjacent A14 it is not hard to see why this rates as a top local attraction.
Best of all it's free!
If you wish to get under the viaduct to marvel at some of the larger graffiti art, you can either continue along the footpath and drop down to the old railway line or simply hurl yourself off.

A n amazing viaduct, spanning two parts of the River Nene south of Thrapston, on Midland road., used to be part of the old Kettering to Cambridge line, that has now all but disappeared, apart from this Victorian Viaduct. Well worth a visit.
