Dirty and need renovation. Beautiful place but people not responsible for history and old place . Be careful on the street . Now poor people try to stolen tourists.

You can take photos of the cathedral and its square, right there you take the bus that will take you to know the city and its typical places, it's worth it.

I know this is the center, the core of the capital, and writing about this is delicate. specially if I have to say that it is horrible. Seems like the govermnt doesnt care about it and prefer to improve surrounding areas of big markets like the one around Forum

The entire area is full of life, restaurants, shops and tons of fun.
Each Visit to Tepic includes a day here. Start with Breakfast, enjoy the plaza and then hit the shops. Many of the stores have unique items. Then go into the Mercado which while it can be overwhelming is a great place to see.

We read the reviews about Tepic's historic centro district which sounded really good but the reality we found was less than we expected. Although there were some really good historic buildings, like the cathedral; there was less to see then we expected. We have seen many historic centro in other cities and that is why we would say Tepic's centro historic is worth visiting but it is not the best

We drove to Tepic from Puerto Vallarta, only about 165km but took almost 4 hours, with a couple of photo stops. Very nice drive but long and slow. Only spent a couple of hours in Centro Historico de Tepic but found it a very interesting place, took some nice photos and had lunch in a very hot and uncomfortable cafe called Tower or something.
Would definitely visit Centro Historico de Tepic again and spend more time looking around.

The best thing about Tepic is that it does not really cater to tourists, so you can just wander around and experience organic Mexican life - as many people come from the county side to buy their stuff.

Take a day to wander downtown. The shopping, the food, and if around the holidays great local artisans selling their work. The people were great and we enjoyed our day downtown. The city is growing fast and everyone seemed to be out shopping after work. Better to take a cab downtown as parking is sparse.

We are taking the bus from Mazatlan and staying in Tepic one night and then on to Chacala. What would be interesting in Tepic for the late afternoon/evening?
